    870 shell latch restaking

can anyone explain the process of restaking an 870 right side shell latch? is there anyway to do it without buying the thirty dollar tool?

Not easy. If you want it done correctly the tool is made for that. You can get by with a punch but will find it only works well on the bottom staking points. The top points are a bugger to get to, thus the design of the staking tool.

If you're going to a gun fight, take a shotgun. If you can't take a shotgun, don't go.

I managed to get mine together and functioning without staking them. Takes a little maneuvering to do it, but once the trigger group is in there, it holds them in place.

Yes, You got it together because the front trigger pin holds the shell latches in place. Staking is just to keep them from falling out when you are cleaning the weapon.
