    870 Wingmaster Barrel Question

    Hello,

I have a 12 gauge 870 Wingmaster that is chambered for only 2 3/4" shells and have been trying to find a new barrel for it, I want a 28" Vent Rib with Remchoke. But the only one I have been able to find is one that is chambered for 3" shells. What are the differences in receivers for a 2 3/4" and 3" shells? Can I put a 3" barrel on a 2 3/4" Receiver as long as I do not shoot 3" shells?

Thank you for any feed back you guys are able to provide.

Yup. If your 870 is chambered for 2 3/4" only, you can put a 2 3/4" or 3" barrel on as long as you do not shoot 3" shells.

        Another note to add:

If you buy a barrel for an Express, it will fit, however it won't stay on by itself. You'll need a barrel with a little ball in the barrel ring so that it mates with the Wingmaster style magazine cap. The expresses don't have it, so your barrel could come off while shooting.

In the same vein, I have a 870 Wingmaster that is over 30 years old. I am looking to get a longer barrel for it. Will the current Wingmaster barrels work with it, or is there some issue there I'm not seeing?
I've never seen an American flag burned at a gun show.

any wingmaster barrel will fit (I just put a 1970's on my 1955) however the older ones with the 2 3/4 chamber are much heavier than the newer thinner profile barrles which were lightened up so they could be swung easier.
