Loading/binding problems with my 870 tactical

Hi all, I could use a little advice from the shotgun pros on some trouble I am having with my Remington 870 tactical. I have a version similar to the one pictured in the link below:

Often when I am trying to load the gun it is the case that I can only get 4 shells into the magazine despite having an extension tube. I can tell that something internal is binding, but I do not know what and I don't know how to fix it. I have disassemble it and cleaned it, and that has not helped. I have tried adjusting how tight I tighten the extension tube on the magazine and the screw which holds on the brace (bracket/whatever you call it) on the front of the gun. It seems sensitive to both, and terribly inconsistent. I will get it so it loads fine with 12 ga. snap caps, set it in my safe for a few days, and then try loading it gain and it will bind.

Is this problem common or familiar? I couldn't find anything about it using the search function.

I am starting to get frustrated with the gun. If I cannot reliably load it to its maximum capacity, the what good is it having a tactical model? Any help or advice you guys can give would be appreciated.

Does your 870 have the ratchet style mag spring retainer? If so, the detent to contain the retainer needs to be removed.

I have a 870 with a factory extension and I'd did the same thing. I took the extension off, leaving the barrel nut on, and installed the spring again.
What part of "shall not infringe" do they not understand?

Your tube extension is not installed properly. Go to www.aiptactical.com and read the red link "Install and Cleaning"

Install the tube extension according to that link and your issue is over.

            J. D. I have looked on your site more than once and it is not just the inherent aspects of a Remington 870 the convinced me to get one, and its not the breadth of aftermarket accessories, but it is the expertise and knowledge shared by folk like you that caused me to step up and get the best shotgun my budget would afford; a Big 5 870 express. I really appreciate your contributions.

I think if you follow the installation instructions from JD you will be good. Here is something posted by someone else that had a similar problem. I suspect that the AIP fix is the proper one.

"All parts that came with the package are good except for the clamp. Needed some modification to the tube open end because the follower kept getting caught in the seem between tube ends. Works fine now, but the clamp is bad because it pushes the magazine tube down, kind of bending it, and im not happy about that.

Bottom line is, tube is good fit but requires grinding with a cone shaped grinding point, spring is good as long as you get the right one, clamp is completely useless unless you like the extension angled down."

Somehow I think he had the wrong clamp; possibly a thicker walled military barrel?

For an example of how not to set up a new 870 look at the 7 shot on the rack at a local Big 5. Instead of having the magazine extension barrel clamp located over the groove in the magazine extension, the clamp is flush with the end of the barrel. I pointed the mistake out to the clerk, who looked at me like I was speaking in tongues. He simply put it back on the rack and I bet if I went back there it is still set up *** backwards.
