    Remington Model 1100 mag cap

    Good Evening Everyone,

I inherited this shotgun, but it came with no "screw cap thing" at the end of the magazine. It seems like this "screw cap thing" keeps shells from falling out or hold the stock on to the rifle. Where can I get a new "screw cap thing"?

It's called a mag cap. You probably need a new spring and follower too. You can get them at Brownells, Midway, and just about any other place that sells aftermarket accessories, like your local brick and mortar or reputable online stores.

If you're getting a new magazine cap, you might want to consider getting one with a sling swivel to make it easier to add a sling. If your shotgun already has sling swivels installed, never mind.

I don't know which 1100 you have but you can look up a schematic like this one at Brownells: http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=0...00_12__12_Mag_

They also provide part numbers for the parts numbered in the diagram. It sounds like you are looking for the part numbered 63 on this diagram.

Yes I am looking for part 63. It looks like I need 63, 105, 67, 66, 12, and maybe 65. Wow, thanks for the diagram. I can't believe that the spring is missing though. I looked up how to disassemble this rifle on youtube. The video did not show the spring either. Does anyone know why? Do you have to have a spring? I would imagine that the spring helps load the next shell, but I was puzzled as to why it wasn't with the rifle, or why it wasn't in the video. Hmm.

Dwtt, it does not have a sling yet, I will definately need one. Thanks.

There are various versions of the 1100. Make sure you are looking at the right diagram.

You don't have much specific info about the gun posted . . . age, gauge, specific model, etc. We are talking about a shotgun here, right?

It is a 12 gauge shotgun. Remington Model 1100. Won in a raffle in 1975 but never shot. Serial # M7*****V

So a 2 3/4 inch receiver... no 3 inch magnum loads. The V at the end of the serial number denotes that. A bit of nomenclature...

I assume that since the cap (63) was missing, that the retainer (67), spring (66) and follower (65) are all gone as well since you mention them. Part 12 in the diagram is an O ring that helps make the gun work, it goes on the outside of the mag tube ahead of the piston assembly. Those pieces are located under the forearm (102).

Note also that the cap also holds the barrel on.

If you plan to do any bird hunting with the gun you should also get a plug which I don't see in the diagram, to limit the mag tube to two shots capacity.
