    Total Newb question

OK, I have no clue when it comes to shotguns. I've stot them and I just bought a Mossberg 500- pistal grip. The one that comes in that orange tube. Now I'm retired Army- Infantry) but all my experience is on rifles and greanade Launchers and such. What I was wondering is, can I use slugs in my shotgun, I know its a 12 gauge and it is 2 3/4- 3 in. I have "OO" ammo now. I plan on putting some accessories on it and I wanted to know if I can use slugs or will I need a different type of shotgun? Thanks for any thoughts.

By the way, in case you were wondering, I bought this one for its size. I use it in my RV for HD. and yes the wife and I are CCW's holders as well.

can you fire slugs? Absolutley. Rifled slugs would be better for you (Im assuming you have mossbergs 18.5" smooth bore barrel) though at close ranges any kind of slug will do just fine

    Thanks for your service btw

unless you somehow special ordered it as a rifled slug barrel or cut a slug barrel down to 18.5" its smooth bore

If it is a rifled slug barrel.... Sabot slugs

If you bought it new in the tube, it will be smooth bore. Guaranteed.

Your gun will handle any "rifled" slugs and shoot them well enough for what you need to do. I'd recommend a Federal or Remington 2 3/4 inch reduced recoil slug round if you are going to continue with the pistol grip only configuration. Not trying to cast doubt on your ability but a full charge, or magnum, slug round from a pistol grip only is going to seriously get your attention.

I plan on putting a stock on it once I move it from the RV. I'd rather not rip my hand off unless its absolutely neccessary. I am definitly not as Hooah! as I used to be.
I'll look into thos Federal Rds as well.
              Thanks again all.
