    purchased my 1st shotgun!

I just purchased my first shotgun today! Its a Remington 870 express 12 ga tactical model. I got it mainly for HD purposes...I'll post pics when its out of jail.

I was looking on Remington's website for longer barrels (26 or 28 inch); in case I want to take it to shoot some clays. Do any of you know if the model #26314 barrel will be ok? It comes with a modified choke.

Any suggestions would be really appreciated!

With as cheap the 870's are I would think it would be better to purchase an extra shotgun
you can pick them up for $280 when they are on sale

How much does a new barrel cost?

Lucky guy. I was just up at a Turners drooling all over a 12 gauge Remington Tactical. I left forgetting to ask whether a 28" barrel would drop in. I am guessing it is no problem since this is actually a 5 shot tube with a factory 2 shot extesion (sans dimples). Is that what you have?

If so, it has the screw on external breecher choke tube. That means it will accept rem chokes doesn't it? I guess not too many want a scew in choke on a short barrel but I was thinking it would be handy.

Congrats on the 870, a great shotty platform (I have 2 myself). I am going to head you off at the pass here (so to speak), there is a very food chance that you will initially run into problems such as not being able to cycle rounds. Do not be alarmed as this is normal for new 870's. Remignton has a well known issue with their tooling on the 870's which you can read about on the interwebs that has to do with the chamber/throat of the barrel being to tight which makes it real tough to cycle the next round but their are a couple of things you can do the help it along.

              1. Take some steel wool and polish out the chamber or

              2. Round about 1 rounds of magnum shells through it.

              3. Or just keep running bird shot till the problem goes away.

After you get through this issue if you even see it you should not have any problems with it and enjoy, as I said it is a great platform and everybody makes something for it.

Do a Search on calgunner 'aippi', he's a Certified Remington 870 Armorer. He has posted the cure for this problem in several posts. Easy to find, easy to cure.

My remington express magnum also has a problem with shells with small lips on them. The ejector arm doesnt seem to get a good grip. Has cost me clays at the range and one duck. Will be switching!

Thanks! This is the exact same one you are talking about. The one on special from Turner's. I also left forgetting to ask whether or not you can drop in a longer barrel, after buying it. I think the tactical model barrel might be too short for going after clays. But it does allow for changing out the breecher choke. I'm a newb, so anyone out there who knows, please go right ahead and correct/verify on what I wrote.

Thanks for the heads up! I will go with the steel wool polish method. Is the idea to polish up the chamber as much as possible without removing any metal?

I dont think I can run magnum shells through it. IIRC, the longest shell you can run through this model is 3"

Mods- sorry for the extra/excess posting, I'm still trying to figure out how to throw in multiple quotes on one reply.
