True wealth is time. Time to enjoy life.

Life's journey is not to arrive safely in a well preserved body, but rather to slide in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "holy schit...what a ride"!!

Don't see any pictures - But assuming you are talking about slugs like this:

The rifling on this slug, does not make in spin in the barrel, it just allows it to "fit" through tighter chokes.

They look functional... and they are... sorta. Which again, is that due to the rifled spin on the bullet, it causes air speed (after leaving barrel) in motion to spin the slug.

You can also cause your slugs some very interestingly strange behavior - if the slug rifling is opposite of your barrel or choke rifling (if your barrel or choke are rifled). As the rifled barrel spins the slug 1 direction, and then air speed tries to spin it the other direction...

As eventually someone will find this thread, and wonder about the merits of rifled slugs... Here is some additional reading material on the subject.

... But demand remained for some sort of solid projectile that could be fired from a smoothbore gun and used on medium game like deer. Some one-gun families did not own, and could not afford to buy, a rifle. What was needed was an improvement on the lead ball, both in terms of accuracy and penetration.

        Foster type rifled slugs

The eventual solution to this problem was the Foster "rifled" slug. This is a short, blunt lead bullet that is solid in front and hollow in the rear, analogous to a badminton bird. And, like a shuttlecock, it is its weight forward balance that allows the Foster slug to fly through the air to its target with reasonable accuracy. Compared to lead balls, this was a big improvement in both accuracy and SD.

Heavy external "rifling" was cast into these Foster type slugs, allegedly to allow the air they flew through to impart a slow spin that would help stabilize the slug. Like most something for nothing schemes, the rifling proved ineffective, but it did provide some space for some compression if the slug had to squeeze through a tight choke. The name "rifled slug" stuck and is still in widespread use today. ...

I'll be taking my Mossberg 500A to the range in a few weeks when my wife's cousin gets his 1911. I love pop'n slugs out of my 500. I usually use the Remington Rifled slugs.
Last time out I broke my 28" vent rib barrel. The barrel clamp broke off of the barrel while I was shooting out Slugs. I think it was because of a weak weld, but I wanted a different barrel anyways...LOL
Now I have a 28" plain barrel with a heat shield on it instead plus my 18.5" that came with the combo.

The 18.5" should be just fine for 25 yards with rifled slugs.

What's wrong with the term "shottie?" I frequently call it that so other people (that don't know about GUNS ~woo scary!) don't know what I'm actually referring to. I guess it became a habit calling it that a majority of the time.

DEFINITELY shoot some trap. It's addicting. A different experience than paper shooting.

I can hit the 100yd gong every time with a smooth bore and 1oz slugs, but I use an EOtech so maybe that's cheating? I expected more noise the 1st time.
