    TacStar mag extensions...Keep away!

Ordered a new TacStar mag extension last year, but never installed. Well, some of the family wanted to go shooting at our local range. So, I installed the mag extension. Tightened very nicely, but definitely didn't overtight. I then installed a barrel clamp.

On the way to the range I snagged a 100-pack of Federal bird shots from Wal-Mart.

Fast forward to the shooting. After about 25 shells fired/cycled...I noticed I can hear the spring jingling in the magazine when all shells are spent. I take a look at my mag extension and the tube had backed-out of its threaded knuckle about a quarter of an inch. Of course at that moment I stopped firing the shotgun and quickly removed it.

I'm definitely not going cheap buying another mag extension.

    Here are the pics:

To be more specific...the threaded knuckle never unthreaded. Only the tube backed out of the knuckle.

Most Tac Star products that I've used have been questionable as far as quality goes. Try Wilson Combat, I picked one up a little over a year ago and couldn't be happier.

Wilson Combat has been the innovator in custom pistols, long guns, and accessories since 1977. Home of the Wilson Combat 1911, EDC X9, WCP320, and more!

I ended up going for the whole package, spring, extension, and follower.

Shucks. Unfortunately I have a Benelli. Wilson Combat only has extensions for Remingtons.

I've heard of good things by Nordic as far as extensions go for Benelli's.

The Nordic extensions seem nice but also check out Dave's Metal Works products for the Benelli. I like his extensions better because you can use the original nut with the integrated sling mount.

I have been eyeing them for my M2 Tactical but just can't spend the money.

Tacstar stuff: I try to stay away from them and ATI stuff. They just don't seem to be high quality.

Wilson Combat is great, but i haven't had an issue with my tacstar on my 870, the only issue i had was my own user error and jamming the spring when trying to put it on. Plus mine isn't like that, it's one solid piece so it won't come out.

+1 on Nordic, just ordered one for my SX3 and they are solid!

Someday I hope I'm unfortunate enough to own a Benelli as well, haha.

Dave metal works is only way to go for benelli. A little solder/flux and that tacstar would be gtg.

Eek. Yea, same thing. I'm just glad it didn't end badly and that I caught it in time. Phew!

DMW is the ONLY solution for Benelli shotguns if you cannot find the parts factory made.
