    Pachmayr F990 Recoil Pad

Triple Magnum Field. Thoughts? I was thinking of putting it on a Remington model 48 12ga. My brother is kinda old school, (1980's) and said these were well worth the money. Anyone have one compared to say a Limbsaver?

The pad is meant more for light target loads. The pad collapses too fast for heavier field loads. Extra care must be exercised when storing butt down as the pad compresses just from the weight of the gun. The 50cal crowd may use it, but they also have a giant muzzle brake as primary recoil reduction, the thicker F990 also adds that extra 1/2" padding before the pad bottoms out.

There may also be some malfunctions that arise because of the recoil system of your Remington Model 48. The LimbSaver is probably a better choice and I would recommend the Pachmayer Decelerator in Old English as a classic looking pad on a classic shotgun.

The pad is 1 1/2" thick while a "standard" pad is 1" thick. To maintain the same length of pull the stock will need to be shortened the additional 1/2". If you decided down the road that you would like a more conventional pad, a 1/2" spacer will need to be used and is not as aesthetically pleasing.
