I bought a Mossberg 590 (20" barrel, 8+1 capacity) about twelve years ago. It's a great shotgun. However, its prime mission is home defense, not fending off the zombie horde, so I am now looking at the 590A1 with 18.5" barrel and 5+1 capacity (maybe add a Vang +1 extension).
What I'd like to know is, would it be more economical to remove the magazine tube and replace it with the shorter tube? I remember reading that this could be done in an article about the Knoxx Sidewinder drum magazine conversion. I'd also have to buy a replacement 590A1 barrel since I don't think that shortening the current barrel would be all that easy.
Are there any gunsmiths out there that have done this?
MOD: if this should have gone to Gunsmithing forum, please move.
