I haven't seen a bad plastic follower, yet, but if I did, I wouldn't hesitate to replace it with a metal one.
I suppose if I remember to, the next time I place an order someplace which stocks these metal followers, I'll order a few. Now, what metal and what color? Decisions, decisions...

Funny thing is SS mag followers were a standard issue from Remmington...
I have no idea why they stopped fitting the 870 with them... It could have been a cost reduction or maybe a better product came around...oh this...

I replaced my plastic mag followers. I had problems with them getting real rough around the edges and creating grag as they wore in. I noticed that they also seemed to collect more junk than the SS ones and began to almost "sand paper" the inside of my tube.Murphy's Law - What can happen will happen at the least opportune momentComment

I have one of the red aluminum followers like the one in L-2 's post,I used it to replace a plastic one that started misfeeding. Its made by Dave's Metal Works, great guy to do business with.Dave also makes really nice extention tubes.
