Speedfeed stock questions

I just picked up a Remington 870 Express Tactical, the one with the 18" barrel, 6+1 capacity, etc.

I was looking at all the different parts made for them, and came across the Speedfeed stock, specifically the type 1 that looks like a standard stock, but stores 4 rounds.

I found several posts from people using the pistol grip speedfeed stocks, but havent seen any feedback from people using the standard stock.

Does anyone have opinions on these? Do they seem to work well, and are the spring loaded storage tubes durable? Would I be better off with a sidesaddle?

I have one on my Mossberg.
Standard type, no pistol grip.
Works nice, decent quality, no problem with the shells going in or out.
Not so good for lefties as the right side shell holder is where your cheek-weld should be.
Add a sidesaddle and you can carry a full reload on the gun for HD use.

The stock had issues years ago. Mainly when one shell was in the tube it could pop out due to shell surge. Speedfeed resolved this issue by making the lip that holds the shells in a little higher.

Another issue was that if the weapon was in a vehicle with the windows up or in the trunk the heat would soften the recoil pad and the springs would push the pad away from the stock. Speedfeed resolved this issue by installing a polymer plate on the pad.

I know of no current negative issues with the Speed I or III at this time.

As aippi notes, early design issues with Speedfeed were resolved. Very good equipment, IMO, and I've long trusted their products.

I've used them before, I prefer the shorther length version. The LOP on factory shotguns is too long for me.

Yeah speedfeed is good stuff, get one and you wont regret it.

me too, I use the Tac IV-s - shorter version pistol grip and I love it.

Thanks for the excellent feedback everyone. You even answered an important question I forgot to ask. It sounds like the side saddle is a better idea for left handed shooters like me.

Some shells sometimes fall out in my experience. It really almost depends on the design of the top of the shell casing. With 2 shells in the holder its less likely because of increased spring tension but still happens to me sometimes...
