    Remington 870 Disassembly

    Hey shooters, the shotgun manual is not very clear on how to disassemble the Remington 870. I can take off the barrel now but the illustrations and directions in the manual suck. Is there a website that breaks it down Barney style with plenty of handy dandy pictures or videos?

            A very important note on the 870. After you have everything apart, bolt out of the receiver, the two slide areas inside the receiver are very sharp due to the pump rails running accross them.

            So don't go sticking your fingers inside if you don't want to have them cut up.

            I use a rag/cloth wrapped around a wooden stick for cleaning the receiver out.

              I just disassembled my 870 two days ago, so from what I remember

              *Make sure gun is unloaded, pull trigger
              * Magazine tube cap, take off. Or if you have a 870 HD with extended mag tube, take off by unscrewing barrel clamp and magazine tube.
              * Take off barrel
              * pump the forearm half way
              * There are two tabs on the inside of the receiver, one on left side, one on right. Its either the action bars or next to it. Push down on both tabs at the same time and slide out the forearm assembly along with the bolt.
              * There should be three main pieces which came out, forearm & action bar, bolt and bolt carrier
              *two pins hold the trigger assembly, punch those out. The trigger assembly along with the lifter will drop free
              * You'll need a spanner wrench to unscrew the nut on the forearm. You can use pliers, but I don't recommend it (even though that's how I took mine off ).
              * To take off the buttstock, there are two flathead screws in the recoil pad, unscrew and take off recoil pad.
              * Look down the buttstock, you'll see a large screw, unscrew and take off buttstock.

              That's pretty much it to disassemble. Reassembly is same but in reverse. Take special note on how the bolt and bolt carrier is positioned. To reinstall the forearm into the receiver you'll have to push on those two tabs again for the action bars to slide into the receiver.

              Good luck
