    870 Jamming Issue

Has anyone ever had a problem with their 870 jamming due to the action bar lock blocking the shell, after it comes out of the magazine tube? I can see the shell come out of the mag tube fine only to be blocked by the little arm that releases the action. I have to use the slide release every time for this not to happen.

pretty much impossible unless the action lock is bent somehow - it's in an indent that makes it flush with the inside of the receiver
you don't rise to the occasion,
you just fall back on your level of training.

Did you take it apart and not assemble it correctly? Maybe you bent something. I have only had shells stick in the bore, which seems to be common with the newer 870s.

Sounds like an improper reassembly issue. I can talk you through it if you call me and have the weapon in front of you. I can then have you check a couple things. Look at my signature line and you wil I am qualified to assist you. Call 231-690-0954 any time as I keep west coast hours and I am up late

Hey all, just wanted to update. I fixed the problem today. It was a slightly, bent to the right, action bar lock. It didn't even look bent, to the eye, but it was just enough to mess everything up. I had to bend it left just a hair (maybe a mm if that) to get it back to where it's supposed to be. The function check was good and I cycled it with some shells without any problems.

            Thanks to all that replied!

aippi - I appreciate the very kind and generous offer. I will keep your number for any future 870 questions!

That was the first thing we were going to check as Fatal Kitty dignosed it correctly. But I want to tell you how to check it with out all this typing, but here goes. Just make sure the action bar lock drops down below the trigger guard. With the weapon empty, check it to make sure it is empty with no rounds in the chamber or magazine tube, then check it again, pull the trigger as you are watching the bar. It should retreat upward into the receiver. Watch it as you rack the weapon back and as you return the breech bolt forward the bar will drop back down. Check the tension on it as it should feel springy (is that a word?). If it passed those test all should be OK with it and you are 100% correct, you fixed the problem.

However, keep checking it for awhile when you are shooting the weapon because parts like that can be bent back but once bent, they tend to return the bent shape.

That is about a 10 dollar part from brownells.

Yep, just as FatalKitty diagnosed. Good info too, aippi. Your check made it out ok, as well. I will definitely monitor the part closely at the range.

I have never heard of a 870 jamming unless something was bent or broken.
