    Long tom

So, my dad walked into my room, today and handed to me what looked to be some old antique shotgun that looks to be sold by sears when they apparently had a gun section? I'm 20 so i don't go far back to those days. Anyways I wanted some ones advice on this since I know zero about shotguns and my gunsmiths outta state, it's got long tom stamped on the side, the barrel looks really fouled up and it looks like they cut it down from what used to be a 24 inch barrel to 20 1/2 , My fathers asking if its worth to restore and even shoot... I wouldn't shoot it myself kinda looks scary. Just wanna see if anyone knows anything about this thing at all.

The resale value of your Long Tom is probably not that much.

I would do a good clean on the bore. Make sure that parts are fine, the hammer holds both full and half cock, the trigger moves freely, the barrel is tight at lockup etc..

If the gun is safe I would shoot it as is, rebuilding costs will probably far exceed the value.

looks like a typical single shot. i don't think it would be worth it to restore.

      does it fit together still?

ooo, you might wanna just buy a new gun... you can buy a new gun but you cant buy a new eye or hand when that thing blows up...

Yeah, the gun still fits nice and snug and the hammer holds at both full and half cock trigger also moves freely, as far as restoring it, My dad says his friends a carpenter and can make him the wood parts for almost free, Still don't think I'd shoot this from my hand probably vise and put some sort of trigger puller since I don't wanna risk anything. was just curious to see if anyone knew about these things.

Long Toms were maunfactured for Sears Roebuck by Crescent Firearms originally and later by Stevens Firearms Co. They originally came with a 36" barrel and many were made with a 2 5/8th inch long chamber and so they won't worl with modern ammo.
            IIRC production ended during WWII.
