    Remington 870 Magazine Cap

Does anyone know any tricks to unskrew the magazine cap without snapping off my fingers? The thing is stubborn as hell, even more stubborn than the M16 handguard rings. Any tools that i can use?

Vise grips should do the trick, just wrap it with some cloth or something so you won't scratch the finish.

Hand tight should be fine when you put it back on.

I've used Lineman's pliers padded with a rag. Should be all you need.

You might want to check that the barrel is seated all the way into the receiver. Just bounce the stock on the ground if you have a recoil pad, otherwise, bounce it on a telephone book.

If the barrel works it's way forward under recoil, it sometimes pushes against the barrel retaining cap and it binds on the detent.
