    saiga 12 sidefolder question

I was wondering if it was ca legal to put a side folder stock on a saiga 12 shotgun, or is the law the same for shotguns as it is for centerfire rifles?

    PC 12276.1. says:

    (a) Notwithstanding Section 12276, "assault weapon" shall also mean any of the following:

    ...

    (6) A semiautomatic shotgun that has both of the following:
    (A) A folding or telescoping stock.
    (B) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon, thumbhole stock, or vertical handgrip.
    (7) A semiautomatic shotgun that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine.
    (8) Any shotgun with a revolving cylinder.

So if you put a folding stock on a Saiga 12 with a pistol grip, then it would be considered an assault weapon. Although if you had a MMG grip or some other type of non-pistol grip grip, then you'd be fine with a folding stock. I'd rather have the pistol grip though. Semi auto shotgun laws are quite different from semi auto rifle laws.

you can have some "evil" features on a semi-auto shotgun, but you can't have a detachable magazine. So, you need a maglock of some sort.

look at hte shotgun AW flowchart for more info on how the laws interact, http://www.calguns.net/caawid/sgflowchart.pdf

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

looks like you could have a side folder as long as you meet OAL and don't have a pistol grip....maybe a MM grip could be used. i also didn't see any metion of a forward pistol grip which i'm considering installing on my S12 with a pinned telescopeic stock.

another way to go is a bullpup. If a shorter shotgun is what your really after, so long as barrel it has 18" of barrel, and the oal requirement i believe, are the same as Federal, which iirc is 26". there was a thread about the bullpup a little while ago, check it out.

vertical handgrips are mentioned in the flowchart.

                  No.

ALL semi-automatic shotguns must have a fixed magazine.
