For shots at 50yds or less I would use a lead Foster style slug and an improved cylinder choke. Most smooth bore shotguns are capable of 2" groups at 50yds with cheap lead slugs.

I say it matters little. The best choke for a smooth bore barrel is Modified as it stablizes the slug better then other chokes. His barrel has a vent rib with bead sight and he is not going for long range accuracy, however, having the slug hit close to his POA every time is still the objective.

You are going to get about a 50/50 response to if these rifled choke tubes are worth it. My vote is No. This is sad as I still have plenty of them for sale. When someone ask if they are worth it, I say no, then if they still want it, I sell it. Back during the Obama gun rush I could not get the 20" parkerized barrels and was buying the 20" matte finish Deer barrels and they come with these chokes. Of course I take them and put Modified tubes in them as I build mostly Tactical Weapons. So I have them and if I would only shut up I could sell them.

If you're going to a gun fight, take a shotgun. If you can't take a shotgun, don't go.
