    Shotgun Chamber Size

Are there any cons to using a shotgun with a larger chamber than you intend to use?

If there are no downsides.. why not just make all 12 gauges with a 3.5" chamber?

Thinking about buying a Browning BPS and the one I want has a 3" chamber though all I ever really use is 2.75".

You can use the shorter shells in the longer guns without an issue. The longer shells just take up more tubular magazine capacity.

      Use 2.75" for BOOM...

      Use 3" for BOOOOOOOOOOOM...

Didn't personally find a viable reason to spend the extra $$ on a gun that could shoot a 3.5" though.

I think the main reason is that the ejection port has to be much longer on a 3.5 inch gun than it does on a 2.75, I don't think all designs are suitable for it.

and there is no way in heck you could ever get a semi auto to work with both 3.5 inch and 2.75... you'd always have to be fiddeling with the gas system.

I only use 2.75 shells.... that way I don't have to worry about someone sticking a long shell into the wrong gun when I'm out shooting... You'd think people would look... but I had an interesting experiance once when some friends and I were shooting trap.... one guy grabbed a slug instead of birdshot and had a fun surprise. thankfully my full choke shotgun didn't get damaged, just his rump and his pride.
