    Chambering Question

I got a Mossberg 5500 from my dad and it says that its chambered for 3'' magnum. So am I right to assume that it can also chambered for up to 3''? So 2 3/4''-3''?

I have done some research and everything I've read points to this conclusion as I am not up on shotgun chambering.

    Thanks

    Mike

    Edit: It's actually a model 1000 super 12
