    Used 870 Wingmaster

My local FFL has an older 870 Wingmaster Magnum in his shop at a pretty cheap price. When cycling the action it tends to bind part way through the stroke. It doesn't stop just gets noticibly harder to move. What could be causing this? Could it be an easy fix?

It could be as simple as needing a bit of oil. There isn't much on an 870 that is hard to fix.

I would think possibly the action bars are tweaked/twisted?

My guess without seeing weapon is what Bjkearns said. The action bars are twisted.

We all tend to torque the forend of a pump shotgun. Over time this torque puts a twist on the action bars and they can start binding in the receiver. this is why you never put a vertical forend on a pump shotgun as it acts as a lever and increases the torque and damages the action bars and can damage the receiver.

To check this simply break the weapon down and pull the forend tube assembly off, not the forend, leave that on the forend tube assembly. Hold the forend at eye level with the action bars pointing at you. They should be straight, even and not twisted. If they are pointing different directions and twisted you bend them back in place for a quick fix to simply check the weapon out but will have to replace the forend tube assembly as they will bend back their damaged shape. That part is $35.00 from Remington.

If this is not the issue then there is some mess going on in the receiver and you would have to break it down, clean it well and if that is not it then there are serious issue that a gun smith would have to have the wepaons in his hands to determine.

If you're going to a gun fight, take a shotgun. If you can't take a shotgun, don't go.

Went in to buy it and there was an empty slot in the rack where it used to sit.

Good news is I got home and my Maadi front end got back from Restorit. Just need a build party now.

            Ahh that sucks!

I've been keeping an eye out. Settled for Wingmaster furniture.
