    Modifying the Mossberg

I want a shotty that's at least somewhat tacticool...

Pistol grips are a big turn-on. But only one isn't a possibility without a Knoxx recoil reducing one, so I'm going to have two (see below).

Seeing as you need a tool (from what I read) in order to switch out the fore-grips, is there anyone in my area that could help me out? Modifying your shotty is NOT supposed to be this difficult...

depending on which mossberg you have, you can either swap foregrips straight up or purchase the slide tube assembly. the tool you "need" is a wrench that fits into the two slits that will give you leverage to unscrew the slide tube assembly nut, thus allowing you to slide a new grip onto the slide tube.

    you have several options here:

    a. buy the tool or borrow it from someone
    b. use something that gives you the same leverage

i went with b and used the file from my leatherman. if you want to get creative, you can weld a nail/rod onto a flathead screwdriver. you just need something to get it loose/tight, the in-between can be done by hand

I installed my Surefire forend on my Mossberg 590, but for the life of me couldn't find a gunshop in the area that had the forend wrench.

Not wanting to wait for one to be shipped from Cabela's, I went the flat head screwdriver and hammer route.

It works well to turn the forend nut, so long as you don't let it slip and mar the finish. I managed to do it without previous experience and without marring. Overall it is a very easy modification.

I've dismantled my 590 fore grip with a metal bar strip and a shop towel over it to keep it from scratching. A study enough ruler would work just the same.

Also to be clear, make sure you hold a pistol grip shotgun to see if you can reach the safety. PGO seems fine, but the PG stocks make it so you have to take your hand out of the firing grip to reach the safety.

I got the Tacstar one on my Mossberg Pursuader & am very happy with it. The kit included all the parts needed to take it appart, including the wrench.

Here is a quick google search I did that shows one all decked out:

check on-line for best price and your wont regret it - If your using the Knox recoil reduction stock it should work out fine (i dont know about the foldable one though)

I also got the Tacstar 6 shot side saddle on mine & its great, just dont forget the blue loctite

RE: Saftey - I just ordered the oversise safety from Cabelas to make it easier & its not plastic. stay safe, shoot the way you want to. Tacticool works for many people
dont forget a light if your going to use it for H.D.
          I mainly shoot .22lr, 9mm,45 acp, 357 & 38, 12G, 7.62x39, .308, .223/556, 7.62x54r, 300 win mag, 8x57
