You also might want to wipe down your shotgun with a silicone cloth if it's gotten "Mossy". JK
I have Tacstars on most of my Mossbergs as well as my 870's. If you have a 500 with a field stock and forearm you might have to either replace the factory one with a shorter forearm or dremmel off aportion to ensure that it wont interfere with the side saddle.Originally Posted by Sic Boy

I have the TacStar and it works fine. Make sure
1) You don't overtighten the bolt that goes through the receiver or it can deform the receiver.
2) Do use loctite on the little hex bolts that attach the sidesaddle to the mounting plate or they'll come loose with recoil.Comment

This is the one I got and it works with no issues. No dremel required.

Tacstar is g2g, but you need to make sure if you want a 6 round one, that it will clear the hand guard. If you have one that's longer like the Big 5 combo, then you'll either need to get a 4 round one or cut down the hand guard a bit.Originally posted by CSACANNONEERAh, the old "form over function" argument. I have used both the TacStar and the Mesa. The TacStar is plastic and gets the job done. The Mesa is made of metal and is much nicer but costs more. I, myself, have converted all shotguns to the Mesa one. I think it's worth the extra money but some people will disagree. To each his own. Both will get the job done.RIP Louis Awerbuck. Vang Comp makes a velcro peel-off side saddle. The idea of peeling it off and sticking another one on ready-to-go is interesting. Runs about the same cost as a mesa. I think it comes with 1 extra 6 rounder.

How does the velcro holdup during recoil? I would assume it would come off after a heavy string of shooting.WTT My BCM Carbine upper for your midlength! Check me out!!

No Weight Bearing Steel on Aluminum
Folks, if you are going to shoot your alloy framed shotgun alot, then do your self a favor and go velcro (3 gun gear or Vang Comp). I have seen the effects of weight bearing steel bolts going through alloy framed SG's and it "eggs" out the pin hole. This makes the side saddle loose and what to we do when something is loose??? We tighten it! I've seen a Benelli S90A-1 ruined by the owner tightening up the side saddle until he pinched the receiver in so much the bolt couldn't move all the way back.
I replaced a Tac-Star side saddle bolts 8 years ago with 3M Industrial double stick tape, it's still holding. I taught with this gun at a welll known shooting school in NV. I now have 3 Gun Gear Velcro side saddles on all but my Vang Comp SG and my Remington 870 (it's steel on steel) and Mesa Tactical has a great product for steel guns.
So if you don't shoot your guns a lot, you can get away with steel bolts through your alloy reciever and if you are going to shoot your SG with a "regular" side saddle on, don't shoot it extensively with ammo on the side saddle and you should be fine. Otherwise, break out the velcro or 3M double stick tape and get rid of the bolts through your frame.
FYI: Another great thing about the velcro attachment system is you can remove the side saddle for storage. I don't know about you, but space in my safe is at a preminum and wide is not good. And yes, you can attach spare ammo to load bearing vests or "Go Bags" using the velcro 3 Gun Gear too.
Just food for thought I've seen start on my guns and I've seen it wreck other's guns so you be the judge. BTW first sign is anodizing gets wore or broke off around your pin holes. If you're seeing white metal around the hole it's begun. Remove the bolts, check your stock pin for proper fit, it may not be too late.
Good luck.Larry Renner
