3" Shells in Remington 870PMax?

I think that when I first fired one, it was a 3 inch shell but I cant recall 100%. I was wondering if in general, can the Rem. 870 can handle 3 inch shells? I have the PMAX if that helps. There is just something that 15 OO pellets in the 3" shell might be able to do compared to 9 OO pellets in the 2 2/3" shell. Its all a numbers game.

Well im not sure what the pmax is but my 870 does handle 3 inch and I think they have done 3 inch for a while.

look on the barrel, it will tell you what size shells it likes

3" shot shells, add felt recoil, increase muzzle rise, and increase recovery time and therefore time between shots is slower.
Low recoil is the way to go.

All new 870's including the P models are built on 3" receivers and all barrels are chambered for 3" and all P barrels are. Model does not matter. Every Remington 870 with a serial number that ends in the letter "M" is a 3" magnum weapon. All new 870" are 3" unless designated as 3.5" super magnums.

so yes, you can shoot 3" magnums in you P model. A good alternative is the 2 3/4" 00 buck 12 pellet. You get the extra pellet count but don't loose a round in your tube.
