    Another Shotgun Question

Since I want a shotgun for hunting I was planning to get a Mossgerg 590 but I need another shotgun. I realized that the 590 didn't have one critical thing for hunting, choke tubes.

So now, I want a shotgun, but not one everyone has like the Remington 870. I was thinking about the Charles Daly semi-auto Big 5 has on sale sometimes but after reading some reviews it seemed like it was a hit-or-miss as some said it was the best semi-auto they'v had and some said it was the worst one they've ever had.

Mossberg seems to be the best option I've seen for the price range I'm in($250-$300)

Anyone have anyone suggestions? Can be pump or auto

The reason people don't like the Remington 870 because of the safety.
The safety is not on top like the three gunners like it.
    The other is cost.
I would take a Remington 870 wingmaster over any shotgun for trap or field.
The 870 your grandkids will be shooting it after you.
Spend the extra money,You wont be sorry.

Choke tubes aren't 100% necessary for hunting. Don't they make different barrels with different chokes for the 590? What do you want to hunt? What are you going to shoot through the barrel?

I know a lot of people who hunt that don't use shotguns with interchangable chokes.

The Mossberg 500 is a very good shotgun for a very good price. And it's got interchangeable chokes. IMO, there is nothing that an 870 can do that a 500 can't.

I shoot a lot of three gun, I only see newbie's shooting Mossbergs. If they get serious and want to stay with a pump they shoot to a Remmy. The safety on top doesn't matter in a 3gun match. I believe the safety on top would make it harder to get to.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.

            +1 for Remington

IMHO.. very well built, high quality, and reliable. Tons and tons of hunting/ tactical/ competition accessories, stocks, and parts available.

If you think the stock safety button on the trigger guard is too hard to reach, change it to a 'jumbo' safety from Wilson Combat or Vang Comp.

I changed the safety button on all my Remys with the Wilson Jumbo safety (10-15 minute DIY job) . I can feel the jumbo safety button is On if my finger is on the trigger or along side the trigger guard, and dis-engage it with the third digit/pad of my trigger finger, with out moving my finger off from the trigger.

You can't beat the accessories that are out there for the Remington. Look at your used gun racks at your local stores and I bet you can find a good one for a decent price.

For hunting I would go with the mossberg 835 ultimag....It has screw in choke tubes, and can take 3.5 inch shells....I miss mine

I was planning to buy the 590 Special Purpose w/ heat shield but then i noticed it didn't have a choke. So I began to wonder if that would hinder the range of the gun since I'm going for rabbits and maybe some ducks. I could go with the 870 Express if so many of you recommend it.

The remington 870 express was on sale for $249 at Big 5 two weeks ago. I think if you wait, it'll be offered at this price again. If you want a gun for both hunting and home defense, I think a 870 fits the bill perfectly.

Really? There are a few other makes that I would prefer over the 870.

Rabbits... eh, you just need a shotgun that points well. I don't think I've ever shot (at) a rabbit past 15 yards... Ducks? Dunno, never hunted ducks.

The Big5 Mossberg 500 combo (with the two barrels) does not take choke-tubes on either barrel. They're both "hard-wired". It's still a great deal.
