Need Advice on S-12 Conversion from PRK

I'm still pretty new to shooting, but I had a terrific time with my recently completed AR build. Next up, I'm planning on putting together a Saiga 12 conversion kit/pack of parts and then send it to PRK arms in Fresno for the conversion.

I'm posting because I'm not sure that I have all the parts that I will need and because I'm looking for advice since this is my first shotgun project. I want to put together a wicked looking SHTF shotgun. I've got a Saiga 12 from Cadiz with a bullet button "cube with a hole at the bottom" kinda setup on it.

    My proposed list of parts:

Chaos rail with QCO, sights, etc.

    $277.22 plus shipping

Tromix fire control group, tromix DIY trigger and hole plugs (choose the tromix trigger)

    $91.00 plus shipping

    Tromix stock with recoil pad

    $150 plus shipping

    Tromix receiver plate

    $15 plus shipping

    SAW Grip

    $16.49 plus shipping

    Chaos front pistol grip

    $58.95

I'm not loving the bullet button, the mags frequently stick and don't want to come out and I've got to wrestle with the lever. I'm not sure that this isn't the shotgun's fault rather than the bullet button housing, but wanted to ask for advice on the problem.

I don't have a bolt hold open gizmo on my list, and I really want that feature. Advice?

Any opinions or other tips from those in the know about these things would be appreciated.

Great buy I have the chaos muzzel brake Its Wicked

I would go with the Carolina DIY trigger... I have it and it fills in the area better, also alittle bit thicker than the other.. I would ask if others have it.
Way to over priced... I just picked up a MAA stock for about $65. There are others out there.. then again its your money.
Go with the internal block, there are a few out there I have an ACE on my 223 saiga, and I have the MAA on my S-12 (I had to do some grinding to get it to line up with the receiver holes)
The ACE fit great on the 223.. the only thing was the holes are still there, I recently welded em up. Then again I don't have experience with this, I would think that having to weld it in would be a pain not to mention it might not have awhole lot of support.
I have on my Draco pistol and my S-12 nice feel if you have small hands probably not a good fit.
Your choice, but I would go with a less expensive one, till you figure out your set up. I have a AFG, great for long distance, crapy for recoil mangement, no longer use on my AR or any other that I have, I use a standard Tangodown vertical grip for work its great and has the cut out for a pressure switch. Then again its roughly the same price.
I'm not loving the bullet button, the mags frequently stick and don't want to come out and I've got to wrestle with the lever. I'm not sure that this isn't the shotgun's fault rather than the bullet button housing, but wanted to ask for advice on the problem.
check out Solar Tactical, I have one of theirs on my 223, and just ordered one for my S12. Also if your having trouble with the mags, you might want to massage either the mag where it clicks in, or the mag release its self.
I don't have a bolt hold open gizmo on my list, and I really want that feature. Advice?
Are you referring to the last round bolt hold open? Because the S12 has a bolt hold open feature. If the other, there are others that are coming up with this product, I think Cobra 76 on saiga fourm is making one and I think that Cadiz is also making one.

Regardless whatever your planning your going to love your new toy.... Have fun and enjoy

PRK did my saiga 12 conversion... just make sure you are patient. Mine took a little over 4 months from PRK received it till it was done.

I had a few more unusual mods done though as I added an AK front sight post to the barrrel and a dinzag AK sights system on the rear giving it an AK style sight leaf.

You might also want to check their prices on the parts you want, as they may have wholesale accounts with the vendors that you want parts from. I know that they had the saw grip in stock (and cheaper then online) when I had them do my conversion.

I think you could have had PRK use their trigger guard because it will work with their maglock which is pretty cool and convenient to remove mags. Also, I would remove the bolt hold open feature it comes with and have PRK cut a notch in the safety lever. I have my Saiga 308 with the safety lever notch to hold the bolt open and its sooo much better than the OEM one it comes with. Reason i dont like the oem BHO, is becus it has got stuck before, leaving the bolt stuck open, i had to use a screwdriver to get it free. I didnt like that at all. Besides when you put a notch in the safety lever, all you have to do is flip the safety off and it ready to go. PRK does nice work, maybe you should just take your stuff to them and ask their opinions or look at conversions they may have there already. Either way you going to have a super nice Saiga 12. Once you shoot it, you going to fall in love. I did with mine.

The OEM BHO works just fine if modded. I cut a small notch and adjust the spring, as far as I know the BHO stays where it is. I do notch the safety on all of my guns just because that is more secure then the factory set up.

You might want to call PRK first to see if they are able to do the conversion.

Duh on the BHO you can grind it out to allow easier removal of your safety. There are diagrams online as well as you can see on your own where it makes contact and just remove that area. Good luck

If you are the least bit handy, you can do the conversion yourself without much problem! It's more fun that way and saves big $$ that you can put back into your gun.

If you have a dremel and a drill do it yourself .I just converted 2 saiga 12's and had no problems other than some trigger spring issues but have got it down now , & that was my first time ever with any ak type weapon .

What's the point of having PRK do the work if you are using DIY parts? The reason to have PRK do the work is to get the holes in the receiver welded up instead of using plugs and to have the trigger guard welded on. They can also cut the tang and weld on a stock adapter to the receiver.

If you want to save a lot of time and money, you can do it yourself. Although some gun snobs may say it is "cheaping out", it is a lot of fun and it really is easy to do. As long as you don't mind a few screws and a couple plastic hole plugs. You may want the check out Saigatechusa for triggerguards.

The one below has a Tapco stock and saw pistol grip, Dinzag trigger parts, Saigatechusa triggerguard, home made maglock, stock forend with slots milled in to it, Russian clamp on front sight, and Krebs ghost ring rear sight. Only about $200 total into it after purchase.

As CJ_cake has said, we only do conversions with our trigger guards and magazine locks. They are the proper TGs that mirror those used on Russian mil. and police guns and the PRK-Lock we have developed for the Saiga 12 is the most secure magazine lock on the market while retaining bolt-on/bolt-off capability.

Our conversions are time and labor intensive and we pride ourselves in being one of the very few shops in the country, let alone CA, to do proper Saiga 12 conversions. The excess holes are welded, the gas block gets pulled and the gas ports tuned, the and the entire gun gets refinished. It is not cheap, and it's not fast, but it is the best. Unfortunately due to time constraints we are currently only working on guns that we have sold. This may change toward the end of the year if/when things slow down.
