    "V" suffix indicates 2 3/4".

      from everything I have read the "M" when it is at the end of the SN you can use 3". So looking at the SN you listed I would have to vote on the no side.

      I would call Rem and ask them. (best way to be sure)

      A: It took 95% of the Obama bumper stickers off the road.

        Unless I'm mistaken, the M [first letter] indicates Magnum and the V [last letter] indicates 12g. Send Remington an email with the SN and they will tell you what year the receiver was made. If the gun has the same barrel it came with the barrel SN will indicate the year of manufacture.

          Each serial number has a suffix and the following indicates the meaning:
          V = 12ga 2 3/4"
          M = 12ga Mag
          W = 16ga 2 3/4"
          X = 20ga 2 3/4"
          N = 20ga Mag
          K = 20ga LW 2 3/4"
          U = 20ga LW Mag
          J = 28ga
          H = .410 bore

            The correct info right from my Remington Armorers manual is the "M" indicates date of Manufacture and the "V" indicates 2 3/4" receiver just like with the 870

            So you have a 2 3/4" receiver that was made between 1974 and 1978.
