    shotgun storage case suggestions

Did a quick search, but didn't find anything. I just purchased my first shotgun, a Benelli Nova 28" black synthetic stock. I'd like to get some recommendations for storage cases for when I'm not using it/traveling to/from the range. The Benelli site says that the shotgun is overall 49.5" long and I'm having a hard time finding a hardcase. Do any of you have any suggestions? Thanks.

Home storage = in a safe (good air circulation) or in a Silicone-treated, polyester/acrylic gun sock in the closet with a trigger lock (although some will not agree), or in the closet with trigger lock and no sock.

I mention the safety devices because that is just the way I am.

When traveling = use what you like, hard or soft case.

Just don't store it at home in your hard foam lined or poly soft case. I have a rust prone 870 and that was the recommendation I got.

Just my 2 cents, I'm sure more educated recommendations will follow...and congrats on a fine purchase!

I've got Pelican cases for my long guns. Depending on whether or not you want a little room for storing slings and such, a Pelican 1750 is 53" by 16", and the 1770 is 57.42" by 18.48". In either case, you should cut out a slot in the foam for a desiccant for rust prevention.

They've got wheels, so going to and from the car at the range isn't a problem. They've also got O-rings and 4 points where padlocks can go.

Never store firearms or other metal objects long term in any foam lined hard case or a soft case. That is an invitation to corrosion. If you live anywhere near the ocean or water, the corrosion will happen even sooner.

I'd consider a gun cabinet a bare minimum for long guns for a number of reasons including corrosion, theft deterrence, and mitigating liability if a minor gets to it.

Thanks for the info folks, I'll start looking into a gun cabinet, maybe a long gun safe. How are all of you transporting your shotguns (especially the ones with the long barrels) to the range? Softcase or hardcase?

              I use this: http://www.amazon.com/SKB-2SKB-5014-...5282134&sr=1-1

Big, heavy, but carries 4 rifles at a time and has wheels.

I use a Boyt soft case to travel between the house and the range. Cabela's also makes a soft case very similar to the Boyt that is very reasonable.

I would most definately suggest a gun safe for your home storage.

You can get a basic gun cabinet for a little over $100 and for a few extra bucks you can bolt it down to make it pretty secure against smash and grab type nonsense. You can even bolt a pistol box on top if you keep an HD handgun at home.
