    Mossberg 500 + SpecOps = Unsafe?

I just installed the Blackhawk / Knoxx SpecOps stock on my Mossberg 500 and part of the stock blocks the "Action Lever Lock" (ALL) on the Mossberg. See photo.

Is this unsafe? It would allow me to accidently eject unspent shells without taking some specific action to do so (depressing the ALL). After racking it also allows the forend to come back slightly (ALL usually locks it out) which makes the trigger not work (until the forend is pushed all the way back out).

I don't think therre is anything intrinsically dangerous about either of these, but I would hate to be in a SHTF/EOTWAWKI situation and have either things happen.

Neither manual mentions this issue. Is this normal? A design feature even?

Can I machine off the part of the SpecOps stock (just a few tenths) to allow clearance for the ALL without affecting its performance / safety?

    Other suggestions?

    Thanks in advance.

    same shotgun and stock

I have the same shotgun and spec ops knoxx stock, but mine looks to be slimmer in that area. I have a 1/8 of an inch between the action release and the stock.
If guns commit crimes then mine are defective.

looks like u might have the wrong stock. Mine seems to fit better and yours is too wide like its for a different model. i have a 500a

Yeah, it looks like yours has been machined off (or not cast) where mine has interference. Looks like I should be able to remove a small amount of material without issue.

        Thank you.

In CKY's case even though it doesn't block it, that looks really hard to operate the bolt release (or ALL as you call it). I don 't think this stock really suits Mossberg's control layout at all.

I was knoxx dealer and did sell a few of these for the mossberg but have never installed on. Look at the OP's and see how it dose not mount flush with the receiver, the receiver mount on the SpecOps is bigger then the receiver where CKY's receiver mount fits correctly and is flush with his receiver.

Is anone seeing the same thing that I am seeing in the pictures? Now, I am not an expert on your weapon or other models but something is wrong here. They make other models and I am suspecting a manufacturing error of something and the wrong receiver mount on this stock.

However, and a big however. Black Hawk bought Knoxx out and has changed some things and one may be a Knoxx and one a Black Hawk. Don't know. Please post in which as the Knoxx has small plates over the receiver pin that have scurity tipe pin holes in them for removal and Black Hawk cut cost and does not use them and you will simply see the end of the receiver pin. this has nothing to do with the issue but is simply a way I can tell if one is a Knoxx and another a Blackhawk. I think I see the pin on CKY's which is mounted correctly and if that is what I am seeing the receiver mounts have not changed and the OP as a deffective stock and needs to send it back ASAP

I did alot reasearch on stocks (wood, synthetic, tactical..) for mossbergs on the Internet and stores. I know for sure mossberg 500's, 590's, and 835's all have the same butt stock design. Maybe the packaging got mixed up at knoxx and somehow a Remington 870 stock (for example) got labled mossberg.

It happened to me when I bought a side saddle carrier for my mossberg. The packaging noted it was made for a mossberg, but none of the screws fit! So I went back to the store and compared it to another mossberg package. Totally different screws. The package marked mossberg was supposed to be for a Winchester.

The 870 stock is quite different from a Mossberg, that the stock would not have mounted onto a Mossberg receiver, so I don't think that is the problem here.

I have a mossberg 500 its a mariner but that is just a coating so its mechanically the same weapon. I also have the knoxx stock on mine and looks just like CKY's and I have zero issue with it.
however it is hard to operate the ALL as someone has already stated, but it is ok for me cause I have smaller fingers.

^^^^That. The part of the stock that mates with the receiver is not flush. You're certain that stock is for Mossies specifically? I'm not calling you stupid; if it is for 500's, call Knoxx.

The mesa tactical is a way better stock anyway. i wish i would have bought one of those because u can install any magpul stock on it. mesa makes a plug that goes in the end of the shotgun then u attach a ar buffer tube to it. so many options that way. the knoxxs hurts my cheek anyway and the stock sits to high so u cant see down the barrel to get a good line of sight.

Yeah, that's no good there, do what you've gotta do to have full unobstructed access to the ALL...it's critical to safety IMO.

Are there spacers that go between the stock and receiver? It looks like in the top pic that if the stock was set back and slightly down that it would clear that lever.I believe the term I'm talking about is the comb and by changing that it would drop the stock and set it back. The second pic looks like that the shape of the stock is diifferant in that area but the top of the stock and receiver line up.

I quess some guys also noticed from the picture that the receiver mount is not flush and you have the wrong stock. Send it back. You can get on the phone with the Black hawk tech person and e-mail them the picture and they will see the issue immediately as I did.
