    light mounts

Well I just recently purchased my first shotgun, a Remington 870 express magnum.

I was looking for a way to mount a flashlight up to the front, right now I have zip tied on there as a temporary solution, it seems pretty sturdy and rigid up front

I was told this as one option via member slobson

but was looking for other viable options, maybe for not as much money

Im trying not to have too much money wrapped up in this shotgun, I think one of the next things I am going to think about is possibly a Knoxx recoil reduction stock

Thank you all for your suggestions

Use duct tape, until you can afford this.

Ya well that is indeed very nice but a little out of my price range
I do know that surefire is nice stuff
my daily carry is a Surefire g2
I have less money into the shotgun itself than that surefire forend costs

any other more cost conservative solutions that you can recommend?

          Thank you so much CDMJ
understanding what goes into the mount does help me understand the cost
I do know that quality does not come free and your product is now a good contender
There are a couple things I really like about the flashlight I have mounted up right now, orange button for the constant on and it has a focusable beam and has the ability to give a huge flood of light instead of a tight beam

Yes I agree, those surefire forend's do look cool but are too much money, when there are other good options
shotgun taxed and drosed $335 out the door
          surefire forend $340 plus shipping

With the Streamlight polytac, do you know if you can use rechargeable cr123's?

I do like Streamlight products, all we used at my previous job was Streamlight

Ok that is good to know about the surefire, I do like the g2, but I have the older incandesant version and with the tail cap, it is only a momentary on instead of a constant on
O ya it is kinda vampire for the batteries, I use mine constantly as I leave for school at 5:30am and its pretty dark

Ya in my room I am renting in the 909 for school I have both the Gadsden and a Jolly Roger

Another vote for the cdmgear light mount. I was one of the early customers for the mount, and I was very happy about the quality and price.

            Regards,

check out the "cdmgear" website; it looks interesting and their focus is to keep your equipment light.

Aippi here on the forum has begun carrying their products.

What are your thoughts on using a forend mount like this:

Browse a HUGE selection of hunting rifles & shotguns, gun parts, gunsmithing tools, reloading equipment, ammo, and more! Brownells: Since 1939

I was thinking this could give me easy access to operate a tactical light without spending an arm and a leg on a Surefire forend system.

I have had no experience with that forend, but if is comfortable and you can reach the light controls easy enough then go for it.

I'm glad I found this thread. I'm currently using a barrel clamp to clamp a Solarforce L2 (Surefire clone) to the magazine extension on my 870. I haven't shot it mounted like this, yet, so I don't know of the light will move or not. I thought about making something just like the CDMGear mount, but, now that I see that someone already makes one I'm going to buy one instead.

This is the surefire system and it costs more than a base 870 alone. Is there a non-surefire equivalent to it?
Never mind. I must have pulled the wrong tab after clicking the link.

Is there a remote pressure switch for the Polytac?

I'm not entirely certain about the Remington versions, but I'd go with the LMG (at least it was LMG series for Mossberg) Surefire forend.

The dedicated rocker to turn off the light can save quite a bit of money on the 123s. No power used if you can ensure no accidental activation.

I500X -That is a $22 Speedfeed LE forend and what looks like a small $15 rail. So for $37 dollars, a bit and a couple screws you can make that. Would take about 30 minutes. You simply drill the screw size of the rail screws through the forend and counter sink the nuts ( ouch, that sounds like it would hurt). That is all someone did, they manufactured nothing and just used exsisting products, same as you can. I sure would not spend $90 on it. Seems like it would work but my concern would be my hand if that thing comes back and bites me. You are far better off with a quality bracket with rail like any of the CDM Gear products.

I have a DYI PVC setup like that, and it works - I just thought a tape switch would be more user friendly for momentary use. I also wanted to shift the light to the right side so that it doesn't snag on the mattress rack I keep it in at night. Being right handed, that would make it harder to reach the tail switch.
