    870 Folding Stock Options?

I just acquired an 870P with full stock, sidesaddle, Serbu style forend and ghosties. We used to use 870's at work with the factory top folder. They seem hard to find in good condition. None on eBay or GB, etc. at this time.

Now I see ATI, Choate, Knoxx, Butler Creek, Spec Ops, etc. folders. I want to retain use of the sidesaddle ammo carrier, so some of the folders won't work as the sidesaddle will get in the way if I try to fold the stock.

Any opinions from owners/users of the various folding stocks out there? Is the Remington factory folder still the one I should look for?

    THANKS for any info.

ATI is, IMO/E, not good equipment. Knoxx is well put together equipment, as is the Mesa line. I don't use Knoxx because I just have never been able to get comfortable with them. I am a full stock kind of guy.

You might shoot a PM to JK Supply. They posted on FB yesterday that they had just gotten in a large lot of 870 LE turn ins, some of the guns had factory folders. Might be able to arrange a swap for your full stock for one of those folding stocks.

I am very happy with the Choate side folder I bought. It is very solid when locked open and very easy to flip open from the closed position. It costs quite a bit more ($120) but you get what you pay for.

Calguns member osokne just put up a thread yesterday regarding the Remington metal folder; it's in this section and titled "Remington Top Folding Stock." he said a place called "Triple A" in Vallejo has one for sale.

i used to have the "LEO ONLY" Remington folder on an older Wingmaster; it really put weight on that shotgun if i recall correctly.

i have a Mesa Tactical telescopic stock with buffer on my 870P; very high quality and unfortunately... expensive. i bought mine from a member here at a substantial discount. there are 3 versions of the Mesa stock and if you research... keep in mind it's important to differentiate the 3 versions and their differences. i chose the "LEO" version of the Mesa.

fyi Limbsaver now has a recoil absorbing slip on butt pad that works on the Mesa.

on my old Wingmaster... i wouldn't think of altering it by changing the stock....

        good luck.

The Remington LE top folder is a pain enough to shoot with body armor, would hate to shoot it alone.

The Butler creek works very well. There were Dealer runs of 870's a couple years ago that came with the Butler Creek stock on them. Even had built in shell holders in the stock. You can also keep your side saddle with the Butler creek. No to the SpecOps as you would have to remove the sade saddle. I don't know anything about the other ones you mentioned.
