A few Remington 870 questions

Will an 870 express barrel fit in a Wingmaster receiver?

If I get a 18'' or 18.5" barrel, would a 2 shot or 3 shot magazine extension make it flush with the barrel (2 3/4" not 3")?

Yes the barrel will fit as long as they are both 12ga. If your wingmaster is a 2 3/4" receiver you will be retricted to shooting 2 3/4" shells even though the barrel is chambered for 3". The barrel will be 18.5" unless it is used as Remington does not make 18" barrels any longer. the Remington LE 2 shot extension will end flush with the 18.5" barrel.

to know if your Wingmaster is a 2 3/4" receiver simply check the letter the serial number ends with. If it ends in "V" it is a 2 3/4" receiver and if it ends in "M" it is a 3" receiver.

Does a "youth" stock meet up with the standard receiver? Does it pass the 26" test with an 18" barrel?

I have a question. I have a new 870 Express and I had a couple of extra boxes of that cheap Win Super X.

The shotgun had a really tough time cycling through it...now is this just because it is garbage loads? Is there any other shells I should avoid with the Express?

It's typically the soft steel on the case, rather then brass, it should smooth out over time, or search for the dowel and steel wool trick.

OP -

Keep an eye on the magazine end cap / extension and keep it tight.

The Express barrel doesn't have detent ball to snug and "lock" the Wingmaster end cap.

And the Wingmaster magazine doesn't use the plastic plug with metal tabs to lock the Express end cap.

Other than the occasional spontaneous end cap / extension down range when we forget to keep it tight, that setup works fine for me and some friends....
