What is the age you have to be in order to own a pistol gripped only shotgun?

I know you have the standard 18 for all long guns but for a single shot/lever/pump shot was wondering...

21 for all long guns. 18 and up for rifles and shotguns. Rifles and shotguns have stocks by definition. You will need to be 21 to purchase a pistol-grip only firearm regardless of the mechanism it uses to fire or the types of cartridges it fires.

Can you link me to some legislation piece? I just read through the whole CA Firearms guide on the DOJ website and it wouldnt be a pistol by definitoin:

Its barrel must be longer than 16 inches.

Aslong as it is over 18" barrel length and 26 overall length then it would be considered a rifle.

And it is not semi auto either so that factors out it being an assualt weapon...

Edit another question would be, is it legal for me to put a pistol grip only on a shotgun that is lever action and is longer than 26 inches.

Personally i think its FUDD, turners doesn't sell them to anyone under 21.... but yet i cannot find any legislation which says so.

It's in the US Code.

other than a shotgun or rifle, or ammunition for a shotgun or
rifle, to any individual who the licensee knows or has reasonable
cause to believe is less than twenty-one years of age;

Bold= the purchaser of any firearm other than shotguns or rifles must be 21 years or older.

intended to be fired from the shoulder and designed or redesigned and made or remade to use the energy of an explosive to fire through a smooth bore either a number of ball shot or a single projectile for each single pull of the trigger.

(7) The term “rifle” means a weapon designed or redesigned, made or remade, and intended to be fired from the shoulder and designed or redesigned and made or remade to use the energy of an explosive to fire only a single projectile through a rifled bore for each single pull of the trigger.

Bold= must have stock. Pistol grip only = not intended to be fired from the shoulder.

So a pistol-grip only firearm cannot be a rifle or shotgun and cannot be sold to anyone under 21 by a dealer.

You should be able to do that. It just can't be sold to you that way.

I'm not a lawyer but if it can't be sold to him[under 21] he shouldn't have it,I'm not to sure he can make it and it would be legal my opinion is it is illegal.

Let me give you a bit of advise. A PG only shotgun is pretty much useless. You can't really aim it and the recoil would be a beacth on your hand. IMHO 99% of the PG only SGs out there tell me that the owner is either new to firearms, a total mall ninja or just compensating for a super small apendage. So, go ahead and try it but, do not get rid of the stock that comes on it. You will want to put it back on if you ever intend to use the gun in any practical capacity.

Nope. He can legally own it just not buy it. Sort of like how he can legally own a handgun at 18 but, he can not buy one until he is 21.

Will put some wood on it and definitely keep the stock, but get a PG possibly for those :apocalyptic movie nights, like the book of eli
