Mossberg 590A1 advice!!!!!

So I just recently purchased a 590A1 and I am looking into getting a new stock, the factory stock is nice but size is a factor. I need somthing more compact. The gun is going to be a home defense and range gun, so I was hoping to get a folding stock that would be functional as well as work with the ghost ring sights on the gun. Although most folding stocks ive seen seem to be flimsy and seem like after a couple hundred rounds of 00 buck they would be useless. So if any1 has any ideas or suggestions on a good folding stock or somthing similar im all ears...also Has any1 heard of a tri rail forearm for this model? A buddy of mine said they didnt make them for the 590 yet at least for the 2010 model which is what mine is. Anyways thanks guys please comment with any advice on a stock or forearm or where I might be able to find 1.

Mossberg makes a bantam stock for that, its a couple inches shorter. I see no use for a folder, other than making is smaller for transport or storage. For shooting, I want a solid, short stock. YMMV.

The knoxx folder is pretty decent, but I would look more towards a collapsible myself. Mesa makes a real nice setup, or the knoxx spec ops as well. As for the forend, your friend is talking out of his arse. Unless they removed the action tube for 2010 (which I highly doubt since it is their top pump gun) Any of the "long action" forends for the 500/590 will fit. Hmmm... interesting question. I bought a new 590A1 Mariner late last year which I'm still learning to shoot without bruising. In the "pocket" apparently I'm not. For personal defense, mine with front bead sight is perhaps not optimal for your stated purpose. Even for my own, I keep thinking I'd do better for home defense with one of my handguns.

Boomer try a limbsaver pad. even mine which was designed for an m4 works wonders. As for the bead, It is actually quicker and easier for home defense. Looking down the barrel will put you where you need to be aiming anyway in a home defense distance

Does knoxx make a m4 type stock that actually seperates from the pistol grip? I know mossberg does but the grip itself was uncomfortable. The reason being I can take the stock portion off and just have the pistol grip for home defense, then when I go to the range I can put the stock portion back on so it doesnt kill my wrists when practice shooting. Not to mention a just a pistol grip stock with ghost rings doesnt make to much sense

I found the Knoxx SpecOps stock a poor choice for my Moss 500 with GRS. Crappy cheek weld and worse sight picture.
I went with the Hogue 12" LOP and Hogue forend. Great cheek weld, sight picture is right on. I'm a lefty, so the action release is in a perfect position. And I can reach the safety without moving my strong hand grip.
Trirail forend on a HD shotgun. I personally would not even consider it.

No, but the mesa tactical one can be separated, it doesn't look pretty when apart, but fully functional. The mesa tactical setup uses an adapter that can mount most ar 15 grips and uses a standard mil-spec m4 buffer tube and buttstock piece. So it can be removed

Both speedfeed and hogue make short versions of their stocks and are very well built.

Yes, Speedfeed makes a 13" LOP version (what I think is the ideal length for myself anyway) and Hogue makes a 12" LOP version. Either would be a good choice.

For myself, I prefer the look and feel of wood, so I went with a Mossberg Bantam wood stock and refinished it. Gives a 12.75" LOP and feels fantastic. I love the looks too.

i have a Mesa Tactical telescopic stock with buffer on my 870P and the quality is superb.

If reduced LOP is the desire, I recommend the Speedfeed or Hogue units ahead of all else. Folders and collapsibles I have never been able to shoot well, or comfortably for some of the reasons mentioned above and others.

I personally don't use reduced LOP on my own guns because I am a big guy, with long arms and I am not shooting while wearing body armor any more. My Mossberg 500 ATP has a ~ 14.5 inch LOP with the factory stock and it's almost too short for me. I used a reduced LOP for a while as a LEO and had very good success with it while wearing armor.

In my opinion, experience and training a conventional stock on any shotgun you intend to fight with (if you have to) is the best way to go.

I recently bought myself an M590A1, too, and am really liking the Knoxx recoil-redicing stock. Only problem is, it's pretty pricey and interferes with the use of the safety.
