Make it look like a SPAS 12

Howdy,

Is there manufacturer that has a kit to make a Mossberg 590 or Remington 870 look like a SPAS 12? Is there one that may be even thinking about it so we can prod them on? I would imagine that it would consist of a topfolding stock, heatshield, and forgrip.

For those who are not familiar with what a SPAS 12 looks like...

Not sure if there are any aftermarket kits out there..

A remmington LEO crane stock looks like a spas stock (well its the closest I've seen)

apparently the spas12 handguard can be adapted to work on an 870 (they did it in aliens on the pulse rifles, even mounted it backwards)



this stock is one I just bought for my C&R remington 870 project.

They come up on ebay now and then, it was a limited production item, which was sold to police departments in the seventys and eightys. It has a big FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT ONLY stamp on the opposite side.

There is almost always one on ebay, just to a search on remminton topfolding stock, or remington police stock and you'll usually turn something up, they go for between 90 and 180 bucks, so be prepared to shell out for it.

If you can find the one with the factory shell holder option, those are really hard to find and command a premium.

The remmy LEO stock is the only folding stock that I like, I actually bought my 870 because I wanted a gun with this stock.



here's what the basic one looks like mounted (NOT MINE, someone else's registered SBS)

I bought mine off of gunbroker.com, and I shelled out 150 to get one in this kind of shape with the shell holder.... I only spent 70$ out the door.

I figure pair it with a surefire 618, and a factory extension/bayonette mount and it'll be a pretty good trunk gun.

franchi makes a pump that looks exactly like the spas but not automatic. There hard to find check gunbroker, or go to shotgunworld.com then look at the tactical forums they can help you out.

It wasn't that limited. Complete guns and/or parts were available to civilians despite the For Law Enforcement Only stamp. In 1979 one could buy a Remington 870SP for under $400 at any gunshop and pick up the stocks for $55 at any gunshow or through Shotgun News.

In June 1979 I bought a Remington 870 from Best products for $170 and a stock for $55 at the San Jose gun show. The shotgun was confiscated by two Santa Clara County Sheriffs deputies, Charles and Barry, a few days after I put it together. Once the investigation was concluded, the shotgun was returned to me by court order. I picked it up at the Santa Clara County Sheriffs headquarters evidence room in July 1979.

The shotgun was handed to me still assembled, along with a clear plastic evidence bag filled with the 12 shells that were in my possession at the time of confiscation. The investigating sergeant and I walked right through the lobby to my car and no one flinched.

I ran into deputies Charles and Barry a few weeks later when they came into the sandwich shop where I was working. We got to talking about the case and as they explained it, they confiscated the shotgun because--due to the law enforcement marking--they thought it was stolen police property.

Later that month I had the 28" barrel cut back to 18.5" and replaced the Wingmaster fore end with the ridged police fore end.

BTW the Remington 870SP can be seen as the firearm of choice in the movie Scanners.

there is actually a stamped metal SPAS stock made for the airsoft guns, they sell just the stock separately. All i know about it is that its metal though, im not sure if its steel or aluminum/potmetal and im not sure on the quality, but they do make one.

As for the shroud/pump im not sure how you'd get that, i guess you could buy an airsoft one and cut it to fit, but im not sure how ABS would hold up to that abuse, you could probably line it with some sheet steel for heat protection like the inside of AR handguards. If you did this you could also get the front sight and bore it out and slide it onto the barrel as well.

That would probably be your cheapest option to make it look 100% like a spas.

The PUMP ONLY gun referred to is a SAS 12 but I've never seen one. The LAW 12 is a semi auto inly version but it is also banned in CA like the SPAS 12 I believe.

thats the SAS-12, doesnt have the heat sheild etc.

E-gunparts also lists that they have SPAS 12 parts, they have some of it like the rear pistol grip but they dont have any of the heat sheilds right now.

You can change the stock to anything an AR can accept.... and same for pistol grip.

Magpul stock or ar15 skeletal stock.

Hogue ar15 grip or PSG-1 style grip.

The Benelli M3 does everything the SPAS-12 does... except in addition to weighing less, it is also 200%+ more reliable as well. The SPAS-12 does have an intimidating look to it, but it is an obsolete shotgun.

Who buys guns based on their reliability, cost, or weight? That'd be too logical, we have to buy the guns that are in rap songs, movies, video games, and look cool.
