Shotgun storage in automobiles

Trying to think of a method or container to store a shotgun in the SUV. Criteria are as follows:

Lockable & ability to secure the container or shotgun to the car.
Low key
Fast to access.
Has to be semi hard or hard case type.

Any ideas? Or what is your system? Pictures would be great, too.

Nonconcealable firearms (rifles and shotguns) are not generally covered within the provisions of California Penal Code section 12025 and therefore are not required to be transported in a locked container. However, as with any firearm, nonconcealable firearms must be unloaded while they are being transported. A rifle or shotgun that is defined as an assault weapon pursuant to Penal Code 12276 or 12276.1 must be transported in accordance with Penal Code section 12026.1.

To the OP, I would personally store the shotgun unloaded, inside a soft rifle case, with a blanket or sheet covering it. If you have automobile covers, then that's even better, since car covers are much less out of place than a sheet or blanket inside your SUV, esp. on the floor somewhere. And I would keep a bandoleer loaded with shotgun shells next to the firearm inside the rifle case as well. Just my suggestion, YMMV.

Negative, the GFSZ laws only apply to "firearms capable of being concealed upon the person." A "firearm capable of being concealed upon the person" is defined as any firearm with a barrel shorter than 16". If his shotgun isn't an SBS, he's good to go no matter if it's locked or not, as long as it's unloaded.

I already found the perfect spot for my SG, but you need a dremel, remove padding, and lose common sense.

That is true for CA law, but not for the federal law.

I usually carry one in a soft case & cover it up with a blanket & stuff. But I am not comfortable about leaving it unlock in the car when I park my vehicle to run errands, etc.

I want something that has the ease of what I'm doing currently but will secure the shotgun when I decide to & yet at a moment's notice, can access it quickly.

Not just an SUV, something that can be used in any vehicle.

6"pvc pipe mounted in some fashion, with a padlock over the cap........somehow. Shotgun in soft case inside that. Pipe could be painted to blend in.

I almost always put gun locks on all my guns when they are being transported in my car.

I keep my SG with gun lock on, wrapped inside a sweater, inside a soft guitar case, locked in trunk.

I know, its pretty overboard, but better safe than sorry.

Trunks are good. SUV's don't have them.

There are some under seat organizers that may have some configurations you could work with open top under seat plastic molded. They have rifle holders shaped in and maybe it could be drilled out for cable locks or something.
