Are new Ithaca M37 Featherweights any good?

My dad bought a 16 ga Model 37 in the 1970s and it was a very nice gun.

I'm wondering if anyone has, or has used, the latest incarnation of the M37 from the "new" Ithaca Co of Sandusky, OH? Do they compare favorably to the guns from the "old" Ithaca Co.? Thinking about getting a 12 ga, but they are pretty pricey compared to a Remington 870.

I bought my 1930's Ithaca 37 12 gauge for $269, and this was at a brick and mortar FFL. It has a 4+1 capacity and has checkered wood grips and was (still is) in great condition. Get the older models. The newer ones will lack the slamfire ability (you hold the trigger down while pumping and the next shot will fire without having to pull trigger again). Plus, there is absolutely nothing like having a 70+ year old pump shotgun. It's like owning a piece of history.

I would ask at another board that has lots of members from better bird hunting country. Suggest www.doublegunshop.com/DoublegunBBS Ask on the first thread (the doublegun one) and label your inquiry OT so the doublegun-only snobs won't read it. You will find plenty of M37 nuts there, including Walt Snyder, the guy who (literally) wrote the book on Ithaca. I remember several threads on the new 37s. If I had the money, I would try one in 16 with a 26" barrel. Or a 20 with the ultralight reciever and a 28" barrel. Or.....

Also try the Ithaca sub-forum over at Shotgun World. There's several guys there that own the Ohio-made M37's.

Ithaca is located in Upper Sandusky. Sandusky is farther north on the coast of Lake Erie. Trust me you do not want to confuse the two.
As to the shotguns being any good I have no idea.
