Whats a all around tactical 12 guage?

Ive had most of everything, Ive owned a mossberg mariner, a remington 870 tactical, and even a benelli m3 convertable. I own many handguns but sadly I havent owned a shotgun in over 4 years. That is all about to change im looking into getting a Home Defense shotgun/range gun. It has to be reliable accurate and versatile. Im am going to trick it out for sure so the gun would need to be able to accept different stock, forehand grips, lights, slings, etc. So with that being said do any of you know a shotgun that fits that description? Also it has to hold at least 6 Im not a fan of the 5 shot. Im leaning twords a 870 express I know they can hold 7 if I remember correctly, but I also heard remington was having problems with them so now im leaning twords a mossy 500...so please if ne1 has any suggestions i am all ears. Thanks guys. by the way I just realized I spelled gauge wrong and I meant to say what is an all around (good) 12 gauge. lol

I've had no problems with my 870 express so far. Just as good as my 870p in my mind other than it's not as broken in. You can get the express HD or tactical with the extension otherwise it's only a 4+1. Mossberg 590a1 would also be a great choice. I just don't care for the looser chambers of mossbergs myself. The problem that some 870's have is a simple fix of polishing the chamber anyway.

My Mossberg 500 20" holds 7+1, the 18" might be a better choice for HD but I think it's a 5+1 or 6+1. I have a 6 round side saddle and clamp style light holder. The total cost was about $60 for both, now I'm looking for a stock with the a pistol grip. Stuff is pretty easy to find and fairly priced if you take the time to look.

Benelli M2 (Inertia/Recoil) or M4 (gas)

Pretty expensive but for me its worth it.

But If you like pump then yeah Mossberg 500 or the Remnington 870 police model are good choices.

I bought a TacStar mag extension tube for my Nova a few years back from Cabelas. Made it from 4+1 to 7+1.

I grew up shooting 870's and really liked them for your stated purpose. From reading and talking to people it seems you need to polish the chambers a bit on the newer express models or shoot a few hundred heavier loads to help with the reliability. The aftermarket for that and the Mossberg 500/590 is very plentiful, obviously, so you can easily tailor the gun to your needs, so they get my vote.

Personally, I've switched to an old Mossberg 500ATP and have quickly favored the tang safety because it's easy for me to use with my long rat claw fingers. A Saiga 12 or 20 is my next HD shotgun, whenever I get a job.

I have a supernova tactical with the pistol grip, and I bought a nordic components +2 for it from cactus tactical. It's at 7+1 now. I highly recommend nordic - very high quality.

For versatility, I'd have to recommend an 870 though. Not because I think it's the better firearm, but because there are so many more components available for it, like adjustable stocks. It's easy enough to get a decent sidesaddle shell carrier for the benelli, tactical lights, mag extensions, and it comes pre-drilled and tapped so you can put on a rail... but good luck finding an adjustable stock for it. If I didn't love the gun so much, I'd trade/sell it and get an 870.

I wish one of the aftermarket shops would make an adjustable stock to fit supernovas though, I really do.

Didn't say if you wanted a semi or pump. Don't know much about semi-auto except my friend has a Benelli that I've never seen it jam or FTF no matter what ammo. Pricy though.
I've seen a Benelli pump at BIG 5 for around $350 or so on sale and have always been curios about it. Got to be good stuff if its a Benelli I would guess.
I have a Mossberg 500 USA. 21" barrel 6+1 with 2.75" shells. I like the top mounted safety. Put a magnetic fiber optic bead sight on it, way better that stock. I might put a Fort Knox stock on it someday (3" buck is a killer).
Can't go wrong with Rem 870, just don't like where the safety is. Just my preference.

I believe this is due to the great number of 870's sold. Not a great number of guns that have this problem. I read somewhere quite a while ago its like in th 1-2% range of effected weapons. In other words it's a common problem due to sales volume.
