Looking for a 870 Remington Barrel

    http://www.remington.com/products/fi...-tactical.aspx

I have an 870 Police magnum (model 24449) and just wanted an extra barrel mainly due to the looks. Does Remington sell just that barrel? Or where can I get one?

    Thanks.

That is a matte finish Express barrel off an Express tactical and they do not include the barrel on the 2010 parts list but might offer it is you call them.

Of course the matte finish is not going to match your parkerized police and since you are buying it for looks over function that might be an issue to you.

      Thanks Aippi.

Forgot about the parkerized part. Do you know if they have that barrel in a parkerized finish?

If they don't, its not a big deal. It's just the mall ninja inside me. The 24449 with a surefire fore-end light and wilson combat mag extension is all the shotgun I need

Why not just put an XS big dot on the barrel and have your barrel modified for Remchokes and then buy one of those "tactical chokes" and put it on? While I am not a big fan of the tactical choke, I do have them on a few guns I bought. The XS big dot is about the only bead sight I run.

I wanted to keep the barrel that it came with stock and use it for serious business such as HD. The other barrel is just for looks and probably used at the range only.

Mossberg makes replacement barrels for 870s... this one appears to be what you have in mind, however it is a bead sight and the barrel itself is only 16 inches, the muzzle brake is permanently attached to bring it up to legal minimum. It is parkerized as I understand it. Downside on this unit is you likely wouldn't be able to use a mag extension with it because of the breecher tube.

If you have to have a rifle type front sight, you might have to get one of these barrels and have the sight added as I am not familiar with any makers putting rifle type sights on breechers. Guns set up for breeching aren't (generally) set up with the intent that they would be fighting guns for distance shooting... even though we all know they get used for it.

I would recommend your HD be the one you use the most at the range. When some mess happens and you have to pull that shotgun out you want everything to be instinctive. This means your defense weapon gets more rounds down range then any weapon you own.

The XS big dot is a great addition to your weapon and means you are at the range with the weapon that you are going to count on to save your A double S. And most of all, it would break my heart to see that tactical choke mess on an 870P. That thing is a cyl bore choke, it does nothing for the weapon but adds length. The barrel that came on you 870P is most likely an I/C choke so your range experience with that other barrel is not going to give you any idea of how your HD barrel will pattern. Just my humble thoughts.
