Just bought an 11-87, what chokes do I need?

I just got a nice 11-87 with a 28" barrel. It come with one Mod choke and that's it. Suggestions please on what chokes to get and what they are best for. I need to get a choke wrench too.

I will be doing a little bit of everything with this, shooting trap at Livermore this Saturday, some Turkey hunting, the next shotgun shoot at Richmond, and it'll be full of buckshot at home.....and whatever other opportunities arise.

What chokes do you like? Extended? Ported?......School Me!

Extended Turkey choke (ported it if you want)
Trap 1 (for trap)
Full (again for trap and pass shooting ducks)
Improved cylinder (or cylinder) for buckshot
The modifed, improved cyl and full will take care of the bird hunting needs.

You can easily get by with just 3 chokes for economy sake. In terms of steel vs lead chokes...rule of thumb is that the choke used for lead, you would use the next open sized for steel. Example: lead full - steel modified...lead modified - steel improved cylinder...lead full - steel modified

1. Full - Trap, dove (not recommended for any steel shot)
1a Improved modified - which I find is a killer in trap
2. Modified - Trap, Ducks, Dove, Pheasant
3. Improved Cylinder - Skeet, Ducks over decoys, Quail
4. Extra Full or Turkey - Turkey

As for extended vs standard, with extended it makes choke change easy and you can hand screw them without a tool. Most sporting good stores that sell ammo and guns should carry the standard Remchokes and wrench.

The extended choke tubes, ported or not, are very handy but can be a bit pricey compared to flush mounted tubes. I prefer them above flush mounted.

Improved modified is, I have found, a clay buster par excellence on the trap field. I strongly second the opinion above. I shoot modified on all upland game birds... dove, quail, pheasant etc. and haven't ever shot full choke on them. All my waterfowl hunting was pass shooting, never over decoys so my experience there is full choke all the way.

The mod choke is great for trap out to the 21 yard line after that you might want to go full. Mod will be great for your shotgun match or Imp Cyl. Get a turkey choke for turkeys.
