no idea on new shotugn barrels

so the shotgun world is a blurry mess to me. i have a Rem870 express 3" chamber that long barrel 26" i think. wanting to buy a shorter barrel around, 18 or 20", for HD and plinking. shot a mix of buck shot, slugs and target loads for clays.

what is a good all around barrel that can cover all of them.

    also

do i need a different choke when going to a slug? The shotgun came with the Modified rem choke cylinder. safe to shot slugs out of it?

Your 26" ifs fine for all those things but you would want one more barrel for HD. You would want an 18.5" barrel. The 18.5" bead sight cyl bore, matte finish sells for $135 from Remington but you will see them on Gun Broker for $118. If you want to save money then get the 18.5" parkerized bead sigth with I/C choke which sell from Remington for $101 but you can see that barrel on gun broker for $99. Or, the 18.5" matte finish bead sight with Rem Tube is $148 and comes with a modified tube.

You would then have an HD barrel and a sporting barrel to make that 870 an all purpose gun.

If you're going to a gun fight, take a shotgun. If you can't take a shotgun, don't go.

You have it! Take the money for your new barrel and go do some shooting. Try some Skeet or Trap. Do some bird hunting.

Waaaay more fun then dumping rounds at paper.

we do skeet and trap when we can. mthan there is some fun shooting metal targets, friend does deer hunting with one, so slug challenges abound...damn 3.5" magnum slugs

but skeet and trap are always fun when we have enough people

As stated in another thread, I bought a Remington 870 Express 18.5" bead sight cyl bore replacement barrel.

Based on aippi's post in this thread, it seems they sent me a mislabeled 18.5" matte finish bead sight with Rem Tube.

I was not until a few months after the purchase, the night before taking it out to test the pattern, that I noticed I could replace the tube.

I would say the option to swap out the different Rem chokes you probably already own for the 26" vent rib is worth a few dollars more.

By the time you buy a short barrel and a mag extension if you are going HD "tacticool" you might as well buy an 870 HD. Sure you're going to spend a few bucks more but you've got two guns ready to go all the time.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.
