Rifle barrel limits you to certain slug ammo only- if this is a dedicated slug shotgun, go for it.
You don't need rifled barrel though it increases your effective range(due to the design of sabot or fin stabilized sabot). Most manufactuers will have both versions(foster/sabot) or ammo that works eqaully well in smoothbore/rifled barrels(like Brenneke Classic or Tactical). For longer range shots in a smooth barrel, you can try Sauvestre fin stabilized slugs.
In my smoothbore M1s90, Brennekes are very accurate and pleasant to shoot(plus I like the felt wad). I've only shot 1 round of Sauvestre to see if it works in my Bennelli. It's accurate but very $$$. At 1600fps, recoil is bit stiff.
my advice is take any shotgun you have, buy a variety of ammo and see which one patterns well with your platform and competency. Brand, size, velocity will have different POI. It does you no good to use some god awefull heavy recoil slugs if you can't call your shot and be ready for the follow up because the recoil causes you to tremble in pain(unless you're a masochist). Have fun and good luck

On a more serious note. If those were the only 2 shotguns to pick in the entire world... I'd pick the Remington 870. As it has a huge amount of optional equipment from many many many vendors.
As "dw1784" mentioned - if you don't like recoil, then the Remington 870, you can easily change to recoil - absorbing stocks. Like the "Knoxx Compstock" one of my buddies went with it, and loves it. Myself I went with the more tactical "Knoxx SpecOps".
Check them out, they are SUPER customer friendly, and great people to deal with on the rare occasions that you need to.
