need some Norinco 98 info

I saw a used Norinco 98 for $150 today. How much do these go for new? Can you put a knoxx spec ops stock on to it? I figured you could use a 870 knoxx spec ops stock but am not sure. How hard is it to find a mag extension? anyone know of where I could find one. How reliable are these guns?

These go on sale at Big5 from time to time for $199. I believe the regular price is around $299. I think you can usually find them on the internet at Bud's for $199 or less. So $150 is a great price. The 982 is a clone of the 870, so the Knoxx stock will fit. Mag extensions are limited to a +1 (Wilson, Vang Comp, etc) as the +2's will extend past the muzzle. Max100 at GunConnection makes +2's specifically for the 982 that IS flush with the muzzle. It is a high quality item, as are the Wilson and Vang. With any extension, you will need to remove the dimples in the mag tube. Easiest is to drill them out. Some use a Dremel to sand them smooth, some will recommend inserting a socket or steel rod into the end of the mag and tapping the dimples out with a small hammer.

Max100 has been selling these guns for a number of years and highly recommends them. Some will say they are better than the current 870 Expresses, some will say they are Chinese junk. I have one and have installed over $400 in accessories on mine. I am of the opinion it is not only an excellent value, but an excellent shotgun.

you got me a bit confused now. so is the model 98 the same as the 982?
I already have a 590 with a lot of mods and just saw the 98 today and though for 150 its a pretty cheap little shotgun I can keep in the back of my car just in case. when you talk about throwing in an additional 250 to make the price go up to 400+, I figure I could easily buy another 590 and start modding that rather then trying to upgrade a 98 and still end up with less rounds in the mag then a 590 not to mention all the work it seems to add on the mag extensions and drill/tap the receiver for optics.

What I've seen are 981 and 982 shotguns that look like Remi 870 clones (981 being the std, 982 having rifle style sights).

Sorry if I caused you some confusion. The 98 is an 870 clone. The 982 is the same gun with ghost ring sights. Both are great guns. If you just want to throw it in the back of your car as is, great. All I was saying is that I added over $400 in accessories to my $199 base price BECAUSE I thought it was worth it as a base gun. If I bought an 870 express, I would have at least $200 more invested in the gun, AND have a gun that is not as rugged as the 982. For the record, I added a Mesa Tactical LEO stock kit, the Hogue forend, TLR-1, Wilson +1, Vang Big head safety and Mossberg heatshield.

The 98 is the first model out. It has a smaller elevation set screw size M3 (size M4 on the 982). The smaller set screw makes it impossible to tighten it down. It will loosen under recoil and the GR aperture will slide off, Loctite needed. The 98 has a harder recoil pad. The $150 price is a good price now but that's what it sold for new when it was manufactured.

98 - GRS and the differences stated above
981 - bead sight
982 - GRS larger set screw and softer recoil pad and maybe a little better finish

holy crap, if it cost 150 new, id think it should be worth like half. espeically if its an older model. Meh, I have my 590. If i gotta blow **** up I'll use that.

It doesn't work that way with guns. You find Rem 870s made in the 70s that sale for as much or more than they did when they were new.

Tell you what, if someone bought a new Norinco 1911 for
$200 10 yrs ago and offered to sell it to me today for the
same price I'd take it in a heart beat-
