Pros/cons of cylinder vs improved cylinder

Looking to see if I have overlooked any concepts.

My son has a Remington 870 Express 12 ga / 28" vent-rib barrel with choke tubes.

He uses it to hunt, turkey and duck mostly (pheasants if we can).

He ALSO wants a short, riot-type barrel.

Probable use is home defense, but it MIGHT be used for hunting.

As far as I know, slugs (Foster-type) can be used equally-well in cyl or imp cyl barrels, yes?

For shot use, imp cyl probably has a smaller pattern, yes?

So maybe the sole remaining issue is rifle sights or brass bead...

I guess I'm leaning toward imp cyl with rifle sights as the configuration that meets the most uses.

I you want to shoot slugs from the short barrel go with I/C as it stablizes the slug better then Cly Bore. If the short barrel is for both hunting and HD go with Modified which is also best for slugs as it stabilizes the slug as it leaves the barrel better then the other two. You get nice tight groups with the Modified also.

For the short range encounter in HD scenarios, the rifle sight won't help...it will be useless for bird hunting, save maybe turkey.

Leave the bead on there.
