    Remington 887 Nitro tactical

Has anyone purchased and/or used this shotgun? I saw it at Turners and was wondering how it handles. It might be too early to see how reliable it is, but I'd be interested to see if there have been any issues with it. I am looking for a home defense pump 12 GA shotgun and was considering the 870 express until I saw this one. Since it is new, I was going to wait and see what the early reviews on this shotgun will be before purchasing it.

I had the opportunity to handle a sporting version of the 887 a few weekends back. It was a nice enough gun but it struck me overall as the solution to a somewhat non-existent problem.

The example I handled felt solid, functioned well, seemed to be well put together and pointed pretty much as I expect a Remington to point for me. The hard shell plastic coating makes the gun pretty impervious to corrosion on the outside, but (IMO) parkerizing or some other coating will do the same thing with less weight. The hard shell does nothing for the insides, and I'd hope that novices wouldn't assume they never have to take care of the gun if they buy one of these.

Looking at the link provided the breacher style Rem-Choke on the front end would point me elsewhere. It's been reported in this forum by aippi that that particular doo-dad is no good, and I trust his opinion on most all things involving Remington shotguns since he makes his living selling and servicing them.

I don't think it will be even around in a few years. Just my opinion but the thing gives nothing that is not already out there for those few who want that mess. It also did very poorly in the magazine test reviews and that can be the kiss of death in todays market. I don't even understand the point of it unless it was to compete with that other brand that is not even a major competitor to Remington in the first place.

Remington is really on a loosing streak lately and has come out with real dogs and this may be another one.

If you run a Google search on it:

              887 on ShotgunWorld.com

and claimed to be "the worst shotgun in a decade":
              Clunker of 2009

              It's not promising.

Thanks to all for the info. This saved me from buying a safe queen. I think I'll go with the 870. I did look into AI&P and that may be a good option for a custom tactical 870 as well.

bass pro in manteca had the black one for $339 im pretty sure, and a problem i could see them having.. is if the plastic covering on them did crack.. and if water got in it.. it could be rusting out the gun and theres nothing you can do...
