    590A1 barrel loose

Hi folks. I have a new, never fired 590A1 and the other day I noticed that the barrel can be rotated back and forth a tiny bit. It's not screwed tight in the receiver, apparently. When in battery, the bolt moves with it.

I can rotate the barrel back and forth as far as the clearance is between the rings that attach it to the mag. tube is.

Iv'e had the gun for a few years now, but have never tried it out.
I just noticed this the other day when handling it.

Is this normal? Is it a problem? Anyone ever seen/heard of this before?

    Thanks for any replies.

The barrel has a couple clamps that go over the mag tube, right?

I was cleaning mine yesterday; you might want to tighten the nut on top of the mag tube and see if that helps. Or better yet, take the nut off, re-seat the barrel, and re-tighten. I think the mag tube screws in, so you might want to screw that down too.

How can you own a gun for a few years without trying it out?!?!

I just noticed that the screw at the end of the mag tube was loose a couple of clicks. I tightened it down and now I can't rotate the barrel anymore.

I guess that the barrels are not screwed into the receiver huh? They are just slid in and, the nut at the end of the mag tube is what secures it?

I have not fired it 'cause mostly I shoot my M1A's when I go to the range. I had been moving around alot in the last 3 years but, now I am retired and settled in where I'll live out the rest of my days.

I have a private place to shoot now, and plan on shooting all the other guns I have that have not been shot in years.

Cool. Yeah, the barrel just slides into the receiver. Unscrew the mag cap and pop the barrel off for cleaning. It's the same as the 870, if you're familiar with it.

In any case, not a bad idea to pull off the cap and inspect your barrel once in a while.

btw- you may need to move the pump up/down to pull the barrel off / put it back on. Fiddle with it a little and the barrel slides off easily. If you can't get the barrel back on, don't force it. It should just slide in easily.

Now go shoot that bad boy! Break in your shoulder!

Thanks a bunch man, I appreciate the info. Probably, I'll do a range trip this week and see how much it kicks with 00 & #1 buck, which is what I have for it.

Iv'e been debating whether or not to go for a Mesa Tactical recoil rig. I'll see how well I handle the kick first.

          Thanks again!
