    Spas 12???

So I was reading the awful teaser they call the California Assault Weapons guide, when I came across the SPAS12. This may have come up before, but why would they ban a pump action spas 12???

Arnie terrorized moviegoers with it... that's basically it.

It's not just pump... it does shoot semi-automatic with heavy loads...

The SPAS 12 is both a semi-auto and pump-action shotgun. Banned under the 89 Roberti-Roos act it is a nine shot capacity and has a folding stock with pistol grip.

Yup. I think there's also a Saiga that's pump/semi selectable. You just flip a switch and the gas system works...

Yeah - after Jurassic Park I really wanted one... I always thought that hunter guy in the movie was the coolest character.

Yes, it was scary, it was in the movies, but it was a heavy, clunky POS.

my favorite movie with the spas was "surviving the game" where these guys (good cast)hunt a bum played by (ice -t) but then he turns out to be pretty savvy and survives the game...

The SPAS 12 is a semiauto shotgun with a small button on the bottom of the forearm that allows you to switch it to pump action. You push down the button, then slide the forearm back and it becomes a pump action. The shotgun isn't very practical and just looks scary. It shoots reliably with regular 12 ga loads in semiauto mode. However, the big drawback is that it's front heavy and not well balanced. Imagine holding a Remington 1100 up to your shoulder and someone add 5lbs to the forearm. That's what the SPAS felt like. There was a folding stock and a fixed stock model and everyone seems to remember only the folding stock model.

That's why most units that used them in the 80s ditched them for Benelli M3s in the 90s.

Speaking of spas-12 does anyone know if you can put a regular stock on it other than the folding stock? (a stock with no pistol grip that is).

I was wondering if the grip was of a standard design so it was interchangeable.

Don't think so. You can remove the folding stock and/or the under-arm thingy, but that's it.
