    Shotgun paint job

Repainted my Hawk 982 with some Rust-oleum Ultra Flat OD green engine paint, gotta say it turned out pretty good. Once I get back to my apartment I will take better pictures but here's one from my phone:

Right now I'm going to leave it as is on the stock/fore end. I like the black and OD contrast. Maybe when I get a new stock (been thinking of Knoxx Compstock) I'll go through with the painting on the old set-up.

I really should have brought my DSLR with me because the camera phone does not do justice, 2 more days til I can put up a better picture.

Looks good. Keep us posted as to how it stands up to use and cleaning solvents, please!
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

              Great minds think alike eh?

I'm thinkin the Compstock just for the recoil reduction, however minimal. But you may have me reconsider, time for more research....

Will do. The solvents were a big worry of mine but for a gun I paid under $200 for it'll make a good tester.

I paint, if I find rust and corrosion. I always put on a clear coat. Looks great.

I cycled the gun 100 times, definitely some wear on the mag tube. Minor paint removal in some areas (we are talking mm's). But still thats a little disappointing. There was no oil on the mag tube and that might have been part of it.

Nice, makes me want to post pics of my 982.

it is nice looking. i'd test the paint durability factor with a separate piece of painted metal and solvent....

I recently did the same thing with my Mossberg 500, though I think the Rust-o-leum I had was just camo and not for engines. I sprayed a couple coats with the camo and then clear coated it with clear engine spray paint.

Mine also wore off quickly from certain areas, but I'm not surprised. Even before painting it the bare metal on the magazine tube was getting scratched.

Repainted the gun and threw some oil on the magtube and it doesn't scrape the paint but then I have to deal with the shiny lube on the magtube against the flat paint.

I painted mines but i wanted the gun to look beat up so I tried to chip paint here and there. Making it look like it just got back from battle.
