Chokes are little tubes that screw in the end of your barrel that affect the spread of your shot at different distances.

Don't know any sites specifically but google should be your friend but only for a basic understanding of shotguns and the various games. If I were you I would take "Thefeeder's" offer and go out and learn hands on, shoot different guns and the guys will teach you about the games and what chokes do.

First you need to know how much you are willing to spend then decide whether you like an automatic or a pump? try before you buy!

What are your plans for the gun? how much do you wanna spend? The Mossberg 500 vs Remington 870 debate will always go on. There are rabid fans of either. I like the Remington cause it feels better but the Mossberg has better placement of the safety and slide release IMO. its really all a matter of which shotgun feels better and more comfortable to shoot. Without looking at the price if either shotgun feels better to you for shooting /comfort get that shotgun. While the naysayers will tell you the Mossberg 500 combo is not that good its really just a entry level gun. There is nothing wrong with that. You may realize later that you want to move up to a "better" shotgun and for the most part you can sell a entry level gun for close to what you paid for it.
The combo also gives you the option of having a HD and a hunting shotgun in one package. granted you can do the same with a remington if you buy the right barrels. The Remington will cost more than the mossberg.
IMO price is nothing if you are uncomfortable with shooting the gun. For the most part the more expensive guns dont necessarily make you a better shooter but they just have a lot more built in comfort and ergonomics. Sort of like buying a base model car or a fully loaded higher end model. There is usually a reason why guns cost more.

i have a mossberg silver reserve. its a good gun. shoots straight and takes down ducks quail and chuckar. Sure its a little rough around the edges but its a decent shooter and Im not gonna cry if I put a ding in it cause i didnt break the bank and i'm not gonna be afraid to take it in the field and put a scratch or ding on it.
For a first shotgun I personally wouldnt go breaking the bank. Look on the for sale forum. youll find a basic shotgun for a fair price.
