Too Much Recoil

Hello,

I'm looking for some help for my girl's Browning 20 GA Citori Featherlite.

It just has too much recoil for her. I suggested maybe she trade, or sell and buy something of standard weight but she is attached to it.

Can anyone recommend something that will make a substantial difference. A Libmsaver recoil pad has been recommended and I have also read about Mercury Recoil Reduction Systems.

It's too nice to leave sitting in the case all the time. Any suggestions?

Rem 1100 20ga youth model? That's what my wife uses.

Any o/u like the Browning is going to have more recoil.

i definately dont suggest selling a browning citori, but definately get a recoil pad for her, and buy different rounds without as hot of a load. if you dont reload you should really get into it then you can customize the rounds she shoots for what shes shooting and how much boom its gonna have.

The limbsaver pad is worth every cent. It will make it shoot like a different weapon.

There are a few thinks you can do.

Install a soft butt pad like Kick-ez

Buy a shooting vest with insertable shoulder pads

Use light taget loads...Or try differant brands, as some will recoil with more of a push then others.

These three will make a differance when put together.

There are mercury reducers that can be fittted into the hollow part of the stock ( thats one way they make a Featherweight lighter)...downside, a heavyer gun.

Gun fit make a big difference....Is you wife a novice, starter or pertty good shooter. Novice shooters will not shoulder a shotgun properly and recoil can be on the painful side. Get a 50.00 lesson...first thing covered is holding your shotgun.

You can have the gun fitted by a smith.

I would go down the line.

and last a G-Square system...about $900.00 !!!!

I too have found that usually it's user error that causes people to freak out. They shoulder it wrong at first, then from then on they have a mental block that persists even once they learn how to shoulder it properly. From that point forward they are simply afraid of it. Some people eventually out grow that. I am one such person and have come to enjoy the feel of a 12GA. Others like my cousin simply give up and choose to have nothing to do with shotguns anymore.

Avoid the SPECOPS stocks, as it will at some point smack her in the face and really hurt her. She'll never touch the thing again.

If her bra has a buckle or adjuster on the front of the strap, it might be bothering her as well. Otherwise, get a good recoil pad installed by a shotgun specialist and allow him trim the stock to make the gun fit her properly. She will think it is a new gun. Another thing to do is try AA X-tra lite loads.

my girlfriend used to complain about her 12 gauge "killing [her] shoulder" (we'd both be putting about 400 rounds a day through each of our shotguns)
one day I took extra notice how she held it, corrected her, and she hasn't had even a sore or bruised shoulder since them... she's now the one getting ME up at 6am to go shooting

Since she is using a break open gun, try to find the AA FeatherLite shells. I believe they call them WinLite now. You can get them in 20 gauge. They are extremely soft shooting and a good choice for starting people out who are recoil sensitive. They are only 980 fps. For her, a 980 fps 7/8 oz load will be very soft, especially with the recommended Limbsaver or Kickeez pad.

Look into Rob Haught's push/pull method.

I don't know if your shotgun would benefit from it or not but you might check into having the forcing cones lengthened and back bored.

I know Vang Comp does this for ghetto blasters and everybody I've talked to says it reduces recoil.

Your gun might already be done.
